That is the case for all the games the script extender is available for.
Well there were plenty of warning here on the forum for a long time. I realise not everyone reads the forum though. I knew this was going to be a repeat of the chaos I saw on the skyrim forum a few months back when they decided to update skyrim se. The fallout (excuse the pun) is still being felt to this day,

meaning you shouldn't update it if you plan to use it, dont even if you never plan to use it.
