Weapons:
1. Any/all weapons released under the CSEP and CWE banner by Pig and DegenerateDak.
These weapons are either FO4 versions of ones seen in previous games, or fit nicely into the aesthetic due to having a scrappy/handmade design or being based on real-world prototype/unusually designed weaponry from the 1950s - 1980s.
2. WastelandMelody’s Chinese Assault Rifle
There’s a few versions of the FO3 gun, but WastelandMelody’s is considered to be the best overall in regards to its design, visual quality, balance, and integration.
3. Deadpool2099’s weapons
The Service Rifle, Grease Gun, .45 pistol, Browning 9mm, Hunting Shotgun, Caravan Shotgun, Wattz Laser Gun, Bullpup Bozar, and 12.7mm pistol are all from previous FO games (mostly FNV). All of them are great looking, well designed, and well balanced.
4. Bwone’s 12.7mm SMG
A 12.7mm SMG to compliment Deadpool2099’s pistol. Originally from FNV but given a makeover/redesign.
5. 10mm SMG
If you’re not keen on CSEP’s 10mm Security SMG (or just want more variations of 10mm SMGs) there’s C1ph33r’s FO3/FNV version and Donskie62’s FO76 version.
6. N99 10mm Pistol
There’s a few versions of the “classic” 10mm pistol floating around out there and even one available in the Tunnel Snakes Rule CC, but I like Toasty Fresh’s version made for the Fallout 4 New Vegas project.
7. Miniguns Rebirth
Skibadaa has a couple of releases that fit your parameters, but I just use this pack which adds in three Miniguns from previous FO games.
8. Institute Technology Overhaul
If you’ve ever felt like the Institute’s weaponry in FO4 didn’t align with their status as the most technologically advanced faction in the Commonwealth - this is for you.
It adds a large assortment of Institute-made weapons and gear that covers nearly all types, and even includes versions utilized by the Railroad who’ve gotten a hold of these weapons and broken through their biometric restrictions (see the mod page for more info on that aspect of the mod).
Micalov only uses textures and meshes from the game so they all follow the vanilla Institute design themes and look natural in the game.
He’s also got a few other remesh and weapon mods that you may find interesting but note that anything Institute-themed he did in the past got rolled into ITO.
9. TheRizzler1’s Hunting Revolver and Ranger Sequoia, LAER, and MK41 GyroJet HMG
Adds in the hunting revolver and its unique variant from FNV made for the F4NV project, the LAER rifle from FNV, and a custom made HMG that could easily pass for being “official” FO content.
The Rizzler1’s weapon mods are high quality - they look/sound great, are well-integrated, and usually come with unique flairs or minor addons/additions.
10. HK G11 K2 by asXas
Brings the unique-looking rifle from FO2 into FO4.
*Special Mentions*
Neheer’s Select series is pretty neat, adding in some entirely custom made weapons that hold true to FO4’s retro-future aesthetic. The only reason I don’t use the Select series much is to avoid the feeling of redundancy with some of the other ones I use.
Niero’s various CROSS weapons are cool and look great, but they lean heavily into a sci-fi/advanced tech aesthetic which - depending on how you see FO - can work for you, or not.
TheRizzler1 also has a claymore sword melee weapon and a Magnum Revolver Rifle. Both are custom (not based on existing FO weapons). It’s up to you if you want a big two handed medieval sword in your game, or a ridiculously large and totally impractical revolver rifle (though its goofiness does kinda fit with FO4).
DegenerateDak’s Assault Rifle remesh. We all agree that the vanilla assault rifle is one of the weirdest and ugliest looking weapons in FO4. Dak’s redesign keeps to the FO4 aesthetic, makes it look so much better, and renames it to Machine Gun to distinguish it a bit more from other AR mods you may use and to play into the redesign which makes it look more like a Fallout-tified M249 SAW/M60 LMG.
Submachine Gun replacer. I can’t remember the name of the mod exactly, but it replaces the vanilla submachine gun with a design that’s more accurate to the M1928 Thompson that the original design is clearly based off of.
Clothing/Armor:
1. Capital Wasteland Project and Project Mojave Outfit Packs
These recreate most - if not all - of the various clothing items from FO3 and FNV and spreads them out throughout the world to find/buy/see on some NPCs and enemies.
2. Capital Wasteland Project’s Raider and Mercenary Packs
Adds in recreated versions of the clothing/armor seen on raiders and mercenary NPCs from FO3.
The Raider ones won’t replace the FO4 Raider clothing/armor loadouts entirely, you’ll just see some raiders wearing the FO4 stuff and others wearing the FO3 stuff.
3. Niero’s Institute Expeditionary Suit, Courser Strigidae, Vertibird Pilot, Railroad Handmaiden, Chosen of Atom, Militia Woman, Brotherhood Recon, and Mojave Manhunter
These are all exceptionally well made clothing/armor sets that fit in very well with the game world. You’ll see the associated NPCs wearing sets like the IES/CS/CoA/BR sometimes, while others like the Handmaiden/Militia/Manhunter sets can be found or crafted and worn uniquely by your character or companions.
4. DefaltTheFixer’s Gunner Outfit Pack
You’ll see a lot of Gunner-themed armor/clothing mods change the faction into modern-looking “tacti-cool” soldiers using gear that looks straight out of COD, but this mod doesn’t do that.
It’ll give the Gunners a significant makeover in regards to their gear, and when I say significant I mean it - the mod adds MANY clothing/armor pieces and each set relates to a different newly added rank or type of Gunner.
Visually, these new clothing/armor pieces give the Gunners a more militarized and tactical appearance, but holds to a mixture of a FO aesthetic mixed with the American military around the time of the Vietnam War.
5. Church of Atom Overhaul
This mod is great if you’re looking to expand the clothing and armor of the Children of Atom both in the Commonwealth and in Far Harbor. It expertly uses the CoA’s original designs and aesthetic and creates many new pieces and sets that look like they 100% belong in the base game.
The mod also adds in new CoA themed weapons and consumable items.
6. More CoA Stuff
If you want even more CoA stuff check out Tinuvia’s Children of Atom Power Armor, 7StarC’s Children of Atom - Fanatics Outfits, and DeserterX’s Atom Girl.
7. Ellie’s Armor Compendium
This massive helping of clothing items may or may not be to your liking. Everything is quality made and covers various themes and even a few faction-themed sets, but it rides the line of being a bit “too modern”.
8. Capital Wasteland Project’s Classic Vault Suits
Did you like the look of the Vault suits in FO3 or find the ones in FO4 to be a little too “rubbery” looking? This mod will replace the FO4 Vault suit and its variations (different Vault numbers, the security armor) with a recreated FO3 styled version.
9. Remeshes of the Combat Armor and Synth Armor
I can’t recall who made these but if you didn’t like the bulkiness of the FO4 combat armor or the PVC look of the Synth armor these may be up your alley. They simply redesign the vanilla armors to look a little more appealing. The new combat armor helmet design alone is worth the download - it looks SO much better than that dopey thing it originally is.
10. FO3’s Metal Armor and Combat Armor
I can’t recall who made what but I think it was the CWP team who did a recreation of the FO3 metal armor and someone else who did FO3’s combat armor. Both can act as a replacer for FO4’s Metal and combat armors, or you can just add them in as standalone versions.
This should definitely be more than enough to get you started, I think I mentioned most of what I use but if I think of any more I’ll mention them.
