Or use console commands to give the minutemen 900000 hit points and start working on that mental problem you've got
Ernest, the son of Marsha the Minuteman who was horrifically mauled to death by a Mirelurk Razorclaw in a botched raid on the Castle by the Sole Survivor became a violent sociopath obsessed with avenging the injustice. Blinded by rage he broke into Parsons where he found an ancient orb which he soon discovered had immense power. After intense study in the lab he used the orb on all who had pledged support to the Sole Survivor killing them and reanimating them as feral ghouls doomed to forever wander the wasteland.
This.
And if the dead bodies do not despawn, drag them down to the water.
What are "real" settlers?
The ones who show up with your settlement beacon on.
I can say that by using "what's your name" mod, while the Minutemen there ARE considered part of the Settlers in quantity, you cannot rename them from Minuteman - literally everyone else that may become a settler (who doesn't have a real name like codsworth or nick valentine) CAN be renamed with that mod.
"Real" settlers = farmers and wanderers who show up thanks to your beacons. Minutemen aren't real settlers in THIS specific case. They can be safely assigned to your defenses and ignored forever. If you lose one, it's no big deal someone else will be along in a moment.
It's usually the Queen which gets them. Unless you skip the entire quest anyway and then use a mod to clean the place up.
When the Queen arrives, you need to pop some Med-X for the poison resist then aggro the queen and maintain aggro. Rotate her around so she's not blowing poison on everyone. Keep yourself healed, shoot for the legs, don't let the Med-X wear off.
Win. Everyone lives.
That is a good strategy on easier levels.
But on Very Hard? I can't see anyone doing it unless they are high leveled and have some powerful weapons. On Very Hard, even with some poison resist, she will take you down very fast.
I go into one of the rooms with the openings and it is a back and forth, shoot and duck back away from the opening strategy. But I like to do it at a fairly early level when I do it.
I play on hard, anything higher isn't very much fun to me. Works good, never had a problem. I kill the queen in five or six shots, don't take much damage. You dance her around the radio station keeping it between you and her and just strafe out to take your shots. Around level 20 or so usually. If anyone dies I reload and do it again, but haven't had to do that in a long time.
