Siding with the institute...
was one of the hardest things I've had to do in a game so far. You can't do it and say, "Once I taker over I'll make the Institute...nice!" No, they keep upping the stakes and forcing you to do more and more evil.I now have the two missions: "Kill Desdemona." - "Warn Desdemona." Sheesh! But I swore this playthrough I'd do it, so kill Des is is!

I won't ever kill the RR since I use a mod that allows you to just lie to Father about that nonsense. I didn't build a relationship with them - and intend to actually rule the Institute properly with synths as citizens - to destroy either of them.

It's the Brotherhood I cannot possibly stand. I simply cannot listen to maxson's bigoted warmongering spew more than a few lines of dialog before I start shotgunning him in the face.

Fortunately, you can still get the vertibirds, though unless you have a mod, only the RR and Minutemen can (for the RR, you gotta do their side mission to destroy the prydwen, then talk to the drummer person, for the Minutemen, you gotta nuke the institute with either the minutemen or the BoS, and gain hostile status with the BoS, then do "With Our Powers Combined", at least, according to the wiki)

Meh. Dez tells you to kill people, even "Patriot".
But remember, nuking the Institute doesn't cause any damage. No radiation at all. What you see when you kill 'em all is just dust. And nuking their homes and destroying all they have and making them live on the surface like the folks who are gonna die is good for them.

I did enjoy SUBVERSION at least the bits I paid most attention to. Given the complexity of it and how much you would have to do with every faction I didn't have the patience or the brain capacity to remember when to do things and when not, but it definitely made ME feel like I was the one actually running the institute at last. Don't like my decision to let synths live their own lives? BOOM YOU ARE REDACTED.

I think it's vanilla though where you can plant information on Ayo's computer that leads to him being ousted isn't it?

Yes. SS can get rid of Loken and Ayo base game, but you pretty much have to play it with the script in one hand and the game in the other.
Its the only faction where you can make everyone in the faction nice to SS. Ugh!! How repulsive!

Subversion mod fixed a lot of immersion/logic issues I had with the original MQ writing.
Dude. I am the director, no more Gen 3 synths will be made.
Now both Maxon and Desdemona better take a chill-pill, help me rebuild (courtesy of SS2) and find a way to coexist, or say hello to MM barrage and teleporting chrome-boys here.

Yes, though the "Plugging a Leak" quest only shows up if you've avoided completing "Tradecraft", which means you can't join the Railroad (and, conversely, the Railroad won't trust you if you join the Institute before them) so it's a choice between accessing almost the entire Railroad questline or doing Plugging a Leak.

For me Institute dies. Not only replaceses people but also FEV experiments. Creating super mutants puts the Institute on the same league with Vault-tech, Halucinogen, General Atomics level of evil. If you don't care about synth slavery. But for me Minuteman ending with BOS and Railroad alive and at peace is the best ending.
