Tesla cannon keeps missing targets

I'm pointing directly at enemies with no obstruction in between and half my tesla cannon shots can't seem to hit anything...is this a bug?

No, in fact I can hit targets very far away, but half the times there just seems to be invisible blockers that prevent the shot from doing any damage. And it's not like the plasma projectile, where you can see that it's blocked by mesh in VATS, in VATs the tesla cannon is literally shown to hit the target, but it just takes 0 damage somehow.

Never upgraded that gun myself or even tried as it's a bit op. as is.
So not really sure if there's a sight for it or not?

Either put a sight on it (if available) or shoot from the hip, either will give you a sight to use.
cross hairs if shooting from the hip works fairly decent and don't block so much of your view.

expect misses with any firearm as many NPC's are pretty quick on their feet while others just stay put.

There's no sight, but the shots seem to travel in a straight line outside of vats. It's very accurate as well, just need to gauge the center right.

I cannot help but think of a Tesla Cybertruck with a mounted cannon ... OP probably means the gaussrifle.
