Enclave ambush at Walden Pond

I was heading past Walden pond on the way to Sunshine Tidings for a minuteman quest, and I suddenly got ambushed by three enclave soldiers, one with power armor. I defeated the ambush, and then checked my quest log to see that it was part of the "Echoes of the Past" quest. I read the "Order: Eliminate me" thing on the soldier and it said that they were instructed to kill me because i had hellfire power armor, but I've never picked up or seen this armor until this ambush. Is this how the quest is supposed to start? I never made any progress on the "echoes of the past" quest until now, and i dont see anything about this ambush near walden on the wiki.

The Ambush is normal once you get certain pcs of equipment they want to take back. And the places they happen are random. Mine have been at the Water Plant close to Gray Garden.

But the ambushes for me has never happened until I got one of the items. Like the Hellfire or X-02, Power Armor, Tesla Cannon or the Heavy Incinerator.

Do you have any of those or using a mod which adds the Hellfire Armor?

the ambush happend the next opssible moment(e.g. after fast travel) after gaining the Power armor OR if you get to near the HQ in the glowing sea.

Ah okay, i grabbed the ghoul slayer heavy incinerator from Saugus Ironworks previously, i guess that must have triggered it. Its stange that the ambush happend way over at Walden pond though

As per the note, the idea is that they track you and find you and ambush you wherever you are.

Ah...that's what happened. The TV show fallout made me decide to pull out the game again after a few years away from it and the save I had just happened to be outside Saugus Ironworks. So I went in and got the incinerator.

I wish they would have just asked me nicely for it. Just take the damn thing, I'm not really a heavy weapons guy anyway! I actually picked it up thinking maybe I could trade it to Slag for Jake Finch.

Same. I just got ambushed 10 minutes ago at the Suffolk County School. I had recently killed Pyro but I thought he was allied to the Forged gang. So I'm not sure what pieces of Enclave equipment I had.
