Survival, ADA, Weight and Big Nukes
I'm trying to get used to fighting on survival without the lone wanderer perk. The reason why is ADA (and other robots) and what they do for you, weight-wise. Quite simply, you can invest in Ada's carrying capacity, and she can carry several heavy weapons + the ammo (also weight on survival). This gives you the simple and brutal option of pulling up to a tough fight, getting the weapon out of her inventory plus some nuke ammo, and rain death down before moving in.

Gunner plaza? Nuke it
Greenies milling around outside Fallons? Blow em up
That damn assaultron on the road near The Slog that's killed me countless times? Kaboom

Btw, what do you guys do with Jezebel? She's just wandering around my sanctuary and says she might leave or something. :steamdeadpan:

Yeah people underestimate how OP mini-nukes and Nuka grenades are. Nuka grenades (without perks) will kill most mobs 35 and under and cripple any survivors.

Same with Nuka Colas, especially Quantums. They give a good quick advantage and the caffeinated helps greatly when you got a long fight coming and want the AP regen buff.

Unfortunately, Jezabel has no real use after the quest. SS2 can somewhat use her for the robot SPECIAL stats.

I tend to take what I like not what is just `uber`. I can't stand robot companions... unless they become human-like! Even Codsworth who I kinda like and even says my name I still don't take.

I deal with enemies in many other quite satisfying ways.

Im not to fond of spamming nuke, probably because it crash the game more than once in my case and it make looting difficult. Once I need to reload because enclave soldiers are too difficult for my current level, I start to spam fatman and then I cant find their bodies after. If my companion spamming it probably i will go blind. I will still prefer dual gatling laser on Ada. It is satisfying to look at all of that red laser.

But i surely underestimate many heavy weapon. Normally never use those. Freezing harpoon surprisingly really fun to use. I managed to get a kneecapper flamer as well. It is really fun to use even if it dealing almost no damage on some enemies.

I took the perk that lets you move at a normal run when overloaded, that makes a big difference since I don't have to leave stuff behind anymore.

Another thing I love doing to enemy locations is hammering them first with Minutemen Artillery. You can build one at Egret Marina and lay waste to the Gunner base.

Also, if you put a cryojet on one of Ada's arms and a flamer on the other, she is death incarnate for most enemies.
It's surprisingly refreshing to be liberated from Lone Wanderer, as it's a two edged sword that bites hard whenever you do have a companion. And a companion is a very good survival strategy in Survival. Dogmeat, Codsworth, and Ada, when you get them, are hugely more effective fighters than you, both in attack and defence. And even the ones that aren't better than you are immortal tanks.

Regardless I find it better to permanently adjust to having the lower levels of attack/defence/carry rather than having to flex my approach and expectations every time I gain or dismiss a companion.

It's such an odd perk because it's really the only one that is like a Trait in other games, something that comes with offsetting buffs and debuffs. It is a curious design decision that I find bizarre, because it incentives you for ignoring a good chunk of the story (companion interactions).

Imagine if there was a perk that said "gain +25% attack defence and carry but you can't do the main quest". Would players take it? Absolutely. But from a game designer point of view do you really want to steer your players away from your content?

(Actually my suggestion/example is better than Lone Wanderer. I would say more repeat players skip the main quest, than skip companions entirely).
The big downside to Ada is that she breaks your stealth, isn't it? Unlike all other companions.
This stomping around with robot death-tanks for wingmen - to me that's a different game altogether.

Do you guys not find it makes the game stupidly easy to have that much firepower and that much backup??

Honestly, the ONLY thing that annoys me is the carry weight...

As a builder I am like a moving black hole sucking up all lose objects to scrap and build. so that carry weight makes a HUGE difference.

There is companions out there that allow the perk to remain in effect, Dogmeat (duh), Heather Casdin, and the Creation Club Sentinnel Armor.
Losing the carry weight is the most irritating, I agree.

Nuka Cola Quantums make an excellent emergency stim pack if you haven't takenany ranks of the medic perk.

as for Ada give her the sentry torso so you can mount mini-nuke and nuka launchers then give her the head mod that can decapitate enemies randomly on any hit. make sure to get rank 1 of the inspirational perk so if she fires nukes indoors you don't die.

not only will her launchers kill weaker enemies sometimes the decapitation effect will trigger when nuking hardened targets killing them instantly.
Or just tgm?

Jezebel can be assigned to Guard Duty or a Supply line. She works fine at those assignments. Assign her just like you would any other npc in your settlement.

And there is a perk ( Strong Back ) which can increase the amount of weight you can carry. Also, the CC backpacks, add extra carry weight. Even in Survival.

I am going to assume you said that just to hear yourself speak, otherwise it was just plain rude and disrespectful to assume that in our THOUSANDS of hours playing we did not figure out what perks do and needed to be lectured on how they work. All because we said we disliked losing the carry weight advantage.
