First I apologize if this is a repeat but I could not find any post talking about this. But I was exploring around the Societies Research lab and behind it found a pipeline with a light attached with a wire going into the ground and water. Bored I decided to follow it. I'm in full power armor with over 40 cells. So down I go following the pipeline even walking on it sometimes. i come to a L bend going foward or right. I continue forward and find a sunkin ship then I drown. Has anyone found this before and why did I drown? Or is this the supposed underwater vault that was cut.

Idk
but id like to know
I'm going to log back in and try to take some screen shots to post.
How thick is the pipeline? Big enough for people to walk through? Or just enough for water or electrics?
Having a B- trying to get the screenshots to load. But Big red pipe big enough to walk on. There are sections where you have to get off of it because it goes vertical down and sections that are broken. but the power line and lights are still working. I did find the path going forward ends at the white ship nothing on it but as soon as you are getting close you start drowning. Which to me indicates I'm off the reservation but unlike the border on land which says you can't go that way there is no such thing here it just kills you. If you take the right path it ends at a green ship again nothing to find but again you start drowning. This one i did look at the map and I was about a 90 degree angel from the Society and Liberaliaout in open ocean.
Sorry Craidark it's big enough to walk on but not through. So I'd say water pipe most likely given that it's going into the lab on land.

prolly not the same thing, but does it have anything to do with the message in the bottle?

So you've got aquaboy/girl set and can breathe underwater yet still drown?

I'm curious. Might take a look.

Oh, and yeah, I could never see any obvious way to show screenshots. Another non-obvious Steam feature.
First not message in a bottle, I don't even know if I ever did that mission. Second no aquaboy/girl perk. just a full set of power armor (Capt. Cosmo's set) as long as you have fusion cores (not cells cores) i've stayed underwater as long as I wanted. No issue thats why I said I had over 40.
OK, I had no power armor but I swam using aquagirl perk. I followed the pipe due south. Tricky. Not sure if the power armor light is stronger or more focused but it's hard to follow and swimming the currents tug you offline. However, I found the first shipwreck. Looks like two ships collided. No easter eggs there except for one concrete block against a fallen container. I followed the pipe further south and it broke off with another (same?) pipe heading due west aiming roughly towards Nordhagen. I generally used the local map to spy ahead and kept moving my marker along. All I eventually found was a shipwreck on the surface with a kind of raft attached with a skeleton, bottle, and globe of the world.

Curious to think that the map developer went to all that trouble to lay a pipeline most players will never see. It's worthy of an easter egg or maybe a mod could (has?) use it as the start of a small quest?

[EDIT: I never did drown!]

maybe because you were swimming I had to walk using power armor one of the downsides I guess
I think I forgot to mention I played this on my Playstation 5 because I only have partial progress on my pc test plays so I only vaguely knew where it was or if I'd survive!
Is this what you are talking about? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSCuQWYOdu8
Looks like that's it though I didn't find the egg shaped pump stations. But that was the pipelines I was following. Still doesn't explain why while walking in power armor I drowned.
I'm playing on my laptop so PC for me. And I've walked from the amphitheater all the way to the Lock underwater no surfacing a number of times and never drowned. And other than Creation club mods I've got nothing else loaded. I go so distracted exploring underwater 1 time I spent 30 minutes IRL never coming to the surface. The only time I've drowned is when I've run out of fusion cores or these times I've run off the prescribed playing field designated by the developers.
This was discovered long ago, part of an effort to map underwater points of interest.[imgur.com] It's very likely related to the scrapped underwater Vault 120, it's sentient squid overseer, and related quest "20 Leagues Under the Sea", as Nahant was intended to play a major part in the quest progression.
