But that's the point of Far Harbor, I think it's partly based on the Fog or maybe the Myst. It's meant to be uncomfortable.
Anyway, the longer you stick it out and get used to it, the better it gets and the more interesting stuff you'll find.
Dima turns out to be very interesting and his design makes a lot of sense when you understand what's going on.
I suggest taking breaks by going back to the mainland for a little bit, then return to the Harbor. Don't try doing it all at once. Also taking a Follower helps make things feel less claustrophobic and lonely.
p.s. I liked the puzzle.
Ahh... what's a glowing gulper, and does it literally eat you (meaning insta death)? I ask because as yet I've never experienced Far Harbor. (Or Nuka World, or what is the other one, Vault 88 or whatever the vault DLC is.)
Dima is Valentine's "brother" they were built at the same time
Forgot the name of the farm you get in the north, but theres an enraged fog crawler that usually spawns at the edge of the build area, right where you fast travel to. Its a PITA.
I enjoyed DIMA's memory games. Its was a nice challenge at logic puzzles and a break from the gunning and settlement building.

Opinions.......i really enjoyed the dark sad atmosphere, felt more like something after the war compared to the "happybright" commonwealth. Far Harbor is the best thing that could happen to fallout 4.
I played Fallout 4 the first time before even the first dlc was released, never played the dlc so far.
Then i started a few weeks ago a new run and was really exited for the "new" stuff.... the dlc.
Esp. Far Harbor as i always read it's the best one.
And while i like the story, the atmosphere and the creatures i also dislike many points e.g. the terrain, as you already wrote, the repetitiv style, the almost 100% fog visuals and the low variation overall.
It might be an unusual opinion but i think i actually prefer nuka world. Sure the story is almost non existent, but the terrain is awesome, almost NV vibes, the almost necessity to play on the evil side brings fresh air as you mostly have 2-3 "good" options and just 0-1 evil ones, and it was fun to just discover unmarked location, more fun as it was in the commonwealth and much more as it was at far harbor.
At the end of the day i still like both DLC and i will play them again in a few years on my 3rd playtrough, but esp. far harbor is below my expectations.
I definitely prefer it to Far Harbor. I get to relentlessly slaughter hundreds of raiders as soon as I get through the "gear check."
Getting real; between FH and Nuka, I do prefer FH because it's really apocalyptic, and it offers lots of immersion since you have to be on your toes all the time. As for Nuka, the only reason for me to keep playing it is to get the achievements it offers, and the PA's for my display room. I might go there soon and just wipe everyone out to see what that's like
