Suggs Bugs: freeze or CTD on killing Suggs
You can stealth kill Suggs and steal his stuff while he's in bleedout and he will still trade with you when he gets up. (You can trade him his own stolen gear back).

On the second or third time of stealth killing him (whether VATS or iron sights) the game freezes in the firing animation or blue screens. This is a no mods vanilla non-Survival run straight from the Vault to Suggs at level 1. 13 May update-update applied. PS4.

Does anyone else see this happening?

The terminals suggest that Suggs is the bad guy in this quest so it's surprising and a little frustrating that you can't side with Marvin. But you do at least have the option to kill Suggs. That is written into the quest. But I guess they screwed something up because he is buggy as hell.

Sounds like it. Esp should not cause a CTD using his workbench.

Kill this guy twice and the game freezes or blue screens. That's a bug not an exploit.

Why would you kill in the first place?
Well for one thing the guy insists on calling you "scavver". Even after you've saved his life and retrieved "his" schematics from the raiders, trigger men and Marvin.

Frankly working for Suggs is like doing wet work for Boeing - rubbing out difficult employees.

And just to be clear, I was not using or attempting any kind of exploit. I just killed him because he's killable and then noticed you can take his stuff (in the garage) while he's down and he does not go hostile. But the freeze/crash the second time you kill him happens regardless of whether you take his stuff or not.

Now I very frequently kill protected or essential NPCs and this crash has never happened with any other NPC, ever.
I tried this a while back. I ended up with the frozen screen and the only way to regain control was through a hard reset, 'cept instead I just shut everything down. Took a good 10 minutes afterwards for my rig to start reliably, sobered me right up in a hurry in the meantime.
Not gonna try that again any time soon. I'd say yea, something is messed up with Suggs.

That's your choice. Not knocking it. I read the notes and terminal..etc. Did not feel a need to kill him.

And last night, I used his workbench just fine. No crash. Maybe because I didn't kill him first?

Thanks for replicating it. Whats your platform? PC?

He was alive when I got the crash using the workbench.

I suspect it was because I accessed the workbench while the two trigger men (one with the Baseball Launcher) were spawning to attack him.

I wasn't even crafting (not allowed in combat) I was just accessing the workbench inventory and examining an item in it.

Ahh. Those two spawned right after I turned the quest in to him and I killed them and then after that, used the workbench to test if it would crash.
Anyway on a technical level this is a game that is highly focused on killing people, so killing people should not cause a CTD.

And it's just Suggs - as noted I've repeatedly killed many protected and essential NPCs, after NextGen update, with no issues.

Suggs's status changes from Essential after quest completion, but this is happening before quest completion when he is still Essential. There is some weird and bad coding going on with this quest or this NPC.

Interesting timing. Those two are supposed to spawn a little earlier than that so they are already trying to kill him as you arrive back with the schematics.

(However the first time I ever saw them they were in a downed state outside his garage but they got up to fight me after a few seconds. I think they may have blown themselves up somehow.)

Can anyone replicate this on Xbox?

Just kill Suggs twice. I'm not sure if it matters whether you kill him from Hidden or not.

I agree it shouldn't. Turn your bug report in.

The first time I did the quest, his piggy launcher disappeared and I could never find it. Then I reloaded a save and it dropped right next to him. The second time I did it yesterday in this play run, I melee killed him and his two companions and he fell off the roof to the ground below. Launcher was next to him.

Both times I killed him, the Launcher had to be looted separately from his body. Has not been loot-able off his body like normal.

I was wrong. They did spawn as I was just about to turn it in. Not afterwards. It's early and I am only half awake. :P Sorry for the confusion.
