Kill Preston mod
I haven't used this mod yet as I want the castle, I have made the minutemen into Red coats, lol and having a ball. But when you do kill Preston I think it makes the minutemen hostile I think. Does anyone know a way to kill Preston but not alienate the faction? I'll need them later to take Nuka World and will mess up my play through.
I should have got Depravity but too late now but will use it on my next one. Just wanted to get rid of Preston.

There's a mod on Playstation that eliminates any NPC without causing an alert at all but I've never found any equivalent on pc. Likely there's a console command to remove him without involving the player.

Click on Preston with the console commands open and type either: disable or markfordelete
That should remove him from your current savegame. This is also a neat trick if you want to remove anyone or any object from the game.

My Preston solution is pretty simple.

Build the Castle into a prison for any who would dare stand against you. Be sure to use the concrete assets and make solid jail cells and place stockades inside them.

Place Preston into the cell and stocks next to Piper, and then forget all about him.

With the militia leader and press imprisoned, your free to enslave the rest of the Commonwealth.

(note this was from the perspective of my Nuka World Raider Boss.)

In my current playthrough, Preston seemed quite toned-down. He wasn't even annoying.

In past games, I've wanted to kill him and actively avoided him, but this time he was just fine. I even travelled with him for quite a few of those early levels.

To put this in perspective, I'm level 70-something, I think? Preston has sent me out to maybe four or five settlements.

In past games, he had one ready every single time I so much as passed near him.

Darth's solution is cute and very role-play immersive, but remember it's entirely pointless without the stocks. That's the operative bit, not the walls. Without the stocks, once you leave, they can do what they want.

For years, people have tried to build concrete walls around Buddy, so your lovely ice cold drinking machine won't get involved with settlement battles, and everytime you leave your settlement, here it is, walking right up to a raider and trying to smack him. If you copy Darth's idea, don't forget the stocks!

"I should have got Depravity"

Make SURE you know what you're getting yourself into. 1000+ hours so you're aware by now mods vary in quality. Thuggysmurf mods are what I'd call "advanced mod use" and not for the timid or casual, certainly not for someone who isn't up for using CK/xEdit, and patch making to integrate it into their mod loadout. Thuggy does things the brute force way, and I do love his stuff, Depravity is a great example, but he definitely embraces the spirit of TH and "it just works!" -- right up until it doesn't. :devilskiss:

Yet there is a solution to the bot problem as well. Well I haven't tested it with Buddy, but based on other bots it should work.

First thing first, you need to side with the BoS.

Fully opening up Boston Airport is going going to be important, as well as having an army of NPCs and 1 giant ass robot that kills anything.

Set up a pretty minimal post game base set up. Power, defenses but NO npcs (except robot ones), NO resources. Just a spot to stick your bots and junk that is all.

With the BoS in place, the inner garage there open, and all your bots there, your bots tend to hang out in that garage with the non settlement workbenchs and are essentially stuck. Nothing ever comes to fight, and if they were too they would have to deal with the entire BoS to even get to your bots, who just hang in the garage blissfully unaware.

99% sure, that same thing will work with Buddy. He still has a bot AI, so he should behave the same as other bots in this regard.

One side note, they may also wonder around inside the BoS base and the inside of the airport in general a bit as well, but still for all intents and purposes are enclosed in the building behind settlement so same difference. This can result in some hilarity as shown with my Nuka bot here, who for some reason decided to make out with the Nuka machine.

Also just to show everyone, the Preston Prison previously described (and yes the stocks are the essential element).

The prison is an evolving work in progress. In the stocks next to Preston, we have Piper (gotta imprison the press), and another minute man. Cait, is set up as acting warden, and Stong is the head guard.

You have to remove him from the player and minuteman factions. Not sure if this can be done by console or not. Remove his essential status either by console or mod. Once he's a free agent then just kill him yourself.
