Is Nexus mods for Fallout 4 safe?
Ive recently became obsessed with fallout 4, and I enjoyed adding mods to it with the built in mod downloader, but the Next-gen Update broke it, and now I cant open the mod menu. Is it safe to download mods for Fallout 4/NV and Skyrim (Not the special edition, the edition thats way cheaper and is unmarked on steam)?

Hey, as long as people are asking about Nexus Mods, i'm looking for a mod that will send my companions home (ie Piper and Nick to Diamond City, etc..,). Someone recommended Companions Go Home but I see it hasn't been updated for the recent update. Anyone know if it works? Or is there a console command I can use to reset the "home" after sending them to Sanctuary?

I'm using Aloot's Home Plate mod that turns your Diamond City home into a settlement so you can send your companions etc. It's a very nice upgrade, well decorated and equipped. The mod works just fine on my next gen install.

Nice to have a Dogmeat around the house when you get home (has his own bed too).

Not much mischief can be done with papyrus.
It's the games where you use C# or Python to make mods where things can be iffy.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out.

Once you're happy with your mods, go into the game properties in steam and set it to only download updates when you launch the game.

Make a shortcut to your mod loader, hide the main game.

Only run it through the mod loader. And never worry about an update breaking your mod list...

You'll probably want to start with Vortex (Nexus official mod loader). There are better mod loaders out there, but it's simple to use, mostly works, resolves mod conflicts (usually), and keeps everything up to date. Plus you can use it for all 3 games instead of having a different mod loader for each one (you'll probably still need the script extenders etc, but check the mod dependencies lists before you download them - nexus will remind you usually).

Delete all manifest files in \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Mods\
You have to download your mods again after that, but they should still be listed.

nexusmods is a safe place to get your mods, and well established mods are also safe to use, unless bethesda does something like the latest patch. that means that the modding community needs some time to adapt and update their mods so that everything is working proper again. and nexusmods is the go to platform for mods for nearly a decade for a reason, at least for me, cant talk for others ^^
