Scrap Everything mod
Through many hours of testing and experimenting with my mod list, I came to the conclusion, well 80% sure, that the Scrap Everything mod tends to CTD my game, especially in a well built up Sanctuary. Sometimes it crashes to black screen and I have to restart my PC.

I'm using all the usual F4SE, Buffout, Address Library all in one, FPX physics fix, I launch the game from the F4SE exe file. I have about 30 mods, mostly cosmetic stuff, PA's, bodyslide, VTAW wardrobe type things, nothing major.

My rig is well up to the task, full specs on my profile. I noted some older posts that Scrap Everything can be prone to causing CTD, but I'm wondering if I should change my loading order, anything like that?

I use this which does the same thing I believe and it works great. Never given me any issues.

If you have updated to the next gen update. it breaks a lot of the thing for both of those mods. you can roll back your game version to get them to work properly again.

Also depeneding on how much you scraped Sanctuary and built there can sometimes cause game memory problems and crashes. not sure how to fix that you may have to do some google searching to find fixes

Not going to roll back just yet, my game actually runs brilliantly post update, got all my mods sorted, mostly. I'll keep testing. Thanks man.

you know it's not an either/or thing, right? you can have your .163 (or many of them) and your .984 (or many of them)... some modded, some really modded, and one not... all it takes is a little knowledge and a 3rd party mod manager like MO2, and some (ok lots) of free SSD space.

something to consider, when you get the game happy and stable and you're liking it, but still got the itch to stuff in some more... more more more... just clone your game install.

Good morning! The old man needs his sleep you know...

I'll see if I can fire up my Enigma machine to decipher the .163's from the .984's, I might have seen .980 somewhere, not sure.

I use Vortex exclusively, and lots of SSD space for many more of more.

Regarding my CTD's; 90% of it occurs in Sanct, in W/S mode, scrapping things, so I'm about to disable Scrap Everything and install Spring Clean. Who knows, it might be an either/or thing after all.

Not tried cloning yet, don't see the need, and I might just completely confuse myself.

Might not be helpful but I'm running the latest build with around 110 or so mods. I use...

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14601

and that offers me the ability to scrap so much. I am doing a lot of scrapping and building within Sanctuary, maybe I'm lucky that I have had zero crashes.

I do not use the mod you have noted tho.

I use Spring Cleaning too but ONLY the Main part of the mod NOT the expanded scraplist - any mod that breaks Precombines can cause real problems - the Lair of the Mechanist turns into a slideshow.

Nothing "Scraps everything" quite as well as the creation kit.
More effort needed with the creation kit, no doubt about it.
But it's unmatched at prepping areas to build on while in game.

Scrap everything ... Great intentions, but it's the work of the devil.

".163's from the .984's, I might have seen .980 somewhere, not sure."

they're all 1.10... .163 was the pre-update, .980 was the update we had for ~3 weeks, and .984 is what we have now, the so-named NG patched update... and yes, you definitely will confuse yourself, at first, but making profiles in MO2/Vortex is the way. Or even cloning the entire Vortex/MO2 install too, because you'll want to keep your download directories separated, easy to break everything in a mix-n-match one-downloads-directory setup...

Scrap Everything is perfect! But, like firearms and bombs, that have no allegiance to their operators and expect you know what you're doing... it's the linux of mods, it's not an iphone app... it doesn't hold your hand. it will let you do stuff that will wreck your game, maybe even make it unstartable, without so much as a "really? are you sure? (Y/N)" It's an incredibly powerful utility that will do exactly what you tell it to.

another useful thing about cloning your FO4 install at a certain point before you try something untested or downright crazy... you have a snapshot backup you can restore, should things get so wonky, you just throw your hands in the air and go "well, f this" and restore to a known-good starting point again... saves a lot of stress and frustration over here, let me tell ya!
