Terminal Hacking Bugs?
So I've come across a few threads mentioning that hacking terminals were often bugged with 0 'correct' choices. Others have stated that's not true and it's user error.

I think there are definitely bugs with it.

Unless I'm completely misunderstanding how it all works, but I don't think so.

edit: disregard this post. I wasn't aware that the position of the letters mattered as well. Hopefully this helps others though.

It works the same as before for me.

BTW, your comment on the screenshot; Although WISP has an S and a P, the letters also has to be in the same POSITION as the attempted words you chose. Thus you got 0 likeness on the first pass.

And before someone rips me for posting this, I'm not saying the game is bad. I'm enjoying it and recommend Fallout 4. Just bringing this to attention.
;)

Yes, sometimes I'm having same impression as if there were no right answers.
Perhaps we were just taking wrong picks, I wouldn't know.

I *think* I've seen it, but also sometimes I miss seeing words.

Position, as in where the individual letters are located within the word?

hmmm...if that's the case, then it makes sense. Maybe I missed that on the tutorial and wiki pages? Will have to re-read that when I get the chance.
@Uncle J - you're right. Position is part of it. I'm a big dumb-dumb; don't know how I missed that when reading up on it earlier. :/

Thanks.

Explains it here too: https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/14lp2vz/how_to_hack_the_terminals/?rdt=35636

I don't like the computer hacking system in the game. It's not hard, just a waste of time. So I use the console to open them. But only for Novice ones. I mean my cheating has it's limits. :steamhappy:

If I want to open higher level ones, I use Nick or Ada.

Lock picking however, is very easy and I don't ever use the console to open them. However, like the terminals, if i need to open the higher level ones, I bring Cait with me.
Sometimes I enjoy the challenge of hacking them, but some days I just want a chill session and it annoys me greatly. lol

@wtiger - Will have to look into the console route. Might dabble with some mods too but plenty are saying the recent update broke a lot of mods... not sure I want to deal with the headache of weeding out the working vs non-working ones. Bleh. ?

@Pookie - Yeah, increasing INT is probably the best way... I think mine is still around 6 or so, lol. Go figure.

Using the console to open them is very simple.

1. Open the console while facing the terminal up close and mouse click the very center of the Terminal's screen.

2. Type unlock. If you get the message in the console," terminal unlocked". It worked.

3. Close the console. Terminal can be used.

Note, there are a very few which will not open using the console. But 90% of them, it works and is safe to use.

Game Bug is how you know Bethesda made it pretty sure there were mods to fixed the Glitched terminals.

I dont even bother with the matching letters. I just randomly click words and 90% of time I will get it on the first hacking attempt without resetting guesses.
