I have a 10mm pistol with the two shot legendary effect. Use it it VATS all the time. Works great.
I also have the Overseer's Guardian rifle. Use it in VATS too.
Could be that I pretty much only use VATS for close quarters. I use a scope for anything far away.
The second shot has ALWAYS suffered an accuracy penalty.
In VATS you rarely see it because VATS hit percentages are based upon your perception, distance, and such,
Without VATS your perception means nothing and the hip shooting system takes over. This is going to cause that second shot to stray.
This effect can be see FAR easier in Fallout 76 (where weapon debris actually works) by using an automatic weapon and pointing it at a wall and shooting.
Now what is really hilarious is the stray shots with a two shot fatman.
I only got the Overseer's Guardian recently and I think I'm seeing the same thing. Disappointing, since I've gotten it modded to give 188 damage. I'd hoped to make it a really powerful weapon
It is a really powerful weapon, esp for early levels. Just free aim. Don't use Vats. Personally I rarely use Vats with range weapons , but the few times I do ( mostly with the annoying flying bugs.), not noticed any difference using the Overseer's Guardian or any range weapon since the Update.
You can still miss with a 95% chance to hit. It is important to have high Perception if you are going to be using Vats a lot.
I did a bit of digging; there's some comments out there eg https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/1cfdgdk/two_shot_weapons_nerfed/ and posted about a few days ago about it but opinions were similarly mixed. Some say they're fine, some say they're broken, some say they were always like that....
All Id say is, if you want to see what's happening, it's much easier on something like a plasma where you can really see the bolt. It was so noticeable as so be distracting and i ended up reloading and getting an instigating to drop instead.
I think two shots still not bad, and OG is still a good weapon - easy to get for sure - but I'm leanbing towards taking instigating or maybe mighty now. if only for aesthetics on stuff like lasers and the plasma
Oh, and it seems like an instigating weapon doubles grenade damage too :)
I see your point though. Since VATS is so bad to begin with, why nerf it to be even worse?
I like VATS. I just had a night fight with a bunch of Super Mutants aqt the Mirelurk Construction Site and I couldn't see them at all. Without VATS I'd have just been shooting blindly at their muzzle flashes. BTW I'm not at an early level; I'm at level 115 as of early this morning.
My Perception is pretty high, but, yeah, I miss at 95% with any weapon sometimes. But with the Overseer's Guardian I'm almost always missing with a 95% chance to hit. And the second round never hits the target I'm aiming at. I'd settle for one shot that did 188 damage but hit the target. I still have the combat rifle that shoots .308 ammo. If I can't get a better handle on the Overseer's Guardian I may have to go back to that even though it only does about 114 damage. I didn't have the Overseer's Guardian until a few days ago, so I can't say if it's accuracy has suffered after the May update.
Well, if you like using Vats, then by all means use it.
It is more challenging to shoot using free aim. That is one reason I prefer not using Vats.
I have not noticed any difference in the performance of the Overseer's Guardian the way I play. Like I posted, using it on occasion to kill flying bugs, seems to work just like before.
Also, keep mind, a lot of free CC items where added in the Update and CC items are known to have conflicts with some mods. I don't use any outside source mods.
I don't believe that's the case, I seem to recall reading that even in VATS or despite how the animation might play out it still works as if it were a single projectile. Can't personally vouch for it though.
Yes, VATS helps me to take on multiple enemies which I frequently can only vaguely see. It's also a big help to keep me from killing even more settlers with whom I'm supposed to be aligned
I don't think I'm using any of the CC stuff that was added in May. I'm not using any outside mods.
I kept in mind your experience with actually aiming weapons, which I've been doing in some cases, as I went off to look for trouble while carrying the Overseer's Guardian. I think aiming by hand may well work better than using VATS with this particular gun. It seems as if Overseer's Guardian may be allergic to VATS in some cases. Sighting by hand seems to work better for me with the Overseer's Guardian when I can get a good sight picture of the enemy. I don't know if I'm actually putting two .308 bullets into the target this way, but it looks like I'm getting one to hit for sure. At 188 damage it's a pretty good weapon. I'm going to keep using it without VATS and see how it works out in the long run. I've replaced my previous .308 combat rifle with the Overseer's Guardian.
OH! It just occurred to me, the Overseer's Guardian does not say that it's a sniper rifle. Maybe that's the reason why some of us are not getting such good results with it in VATS.
