I just love how he’s such a jerk to you, then gets all “oh my god, I’m so sorry for treating you like that, please forgive me” after you’ve defeated the Institute and become Sentinel…and then goes right back to being a jerk and speaks to you with such disdain if you continue going to him for Cleansing the Commonwealth missions.

Same with Haylen. She’ll get all kinds of angry at you if you kill Danse and she’ll confront you and more or less tell you that she’ll respect your rank but otherwise she hates your guts and hopes that you die…then proceeds to go right back to being so very nice and friendly to you while doing her repeatable missions.

My hypothesis is that Bethesda was too cheap to pay the voice actors to redo all their lines for the quests from the changed opinion of SS.
You are the glitch that Bethesda didn't expect, you noticed.

It’s par for the course for them. Skyrim is filled with instances like this where an NPC’s disposition towards you will change depending on if you’re in a dialogue with them, passing them by and triggering their non-dialogue comments, or in a specific quest-related dialogue.

People who've never actually been in the military, and never actually worked together with legitimately tough people are incapable of writing anything but shallow, banal personalities. Bethesda is not known for its quality writing, and they never fail to disappoint on that score.

The other factions have them also. Part of the human race having their jerks, egotists and negative, etc. personalities.

I served 3 years in the US Army in a combat position. You have the same types in it too.

Oh yeah hah, such a whiplash. I remember thinking I had finally won Rhys over only to realize he was still a jerk. Personally I think the developers just forgot to program the change their attitudes.

Partially right.

If you're the male SS, you're probably seen as a God of War. Not Kratos, but kind of like Guan Yu who just dominates the battlefield and builds up his own legend after the death of Lu Bu. If you've seen Red Cliff or any Three Kingdoms Chinese sagas, you'll know what I'm talking about.

When you show up for the first time at the police station and deal with the ferals, Danse remarks "the way you charged in" makes me believe he think he's never seen anyone kill that quickly and with absolute carnage, like right after your first official mission as a Knight and go on a mission to take out some Super Mutants. He even remarks what a mess you made, and not as the sloppy kind, but the kind where it makes it seem you tear off their heads and sh1t down their necks. If you respond "I hate super mutants, I'll kill any I come across" (or something like that), he likes that. And I think there's an Easter egg of removed dialogue where some BoS remarks that they saw what you did at that SM mission, you as being absolutely full of greatness; even the entire lot on the Prydwen seems to be in awe of what you did even if you didn't find the hidden dialogue letter somewhere on the Prydwen (removed content, I think).. So I think Rhys is just really jealous. Considering your male SS fought at Anchorage, is a decorated veteran, and probably has an entire virtual reality video of his exploits (FO3, I'm thinking these are the SS's real memories) leads me to believe this.

If you're the female SS, I can only surmise that you just got really skilled in the same vein. Considering you went from lawyer to mom to battle maiden, probably fits.

Hey hey now, don't be calling Preston a jerk, he is a cool guy. A bit annoying sometimes perhaps, but not a jerk. Ronni maybe though, she is a bit abrupt but is still kind of likeable. Nothing as bad as Rhys or Carrington.
