Dogmeat can be an irritating pest, I don't use him anymore.
Assigning workers: enter workshop mode, look at he settler, (You'll see some prompts at the bottom of your screen) you have to be close though, and press Enter. Then run to your farm and look at the thing you want done, press enter again and wait a sec or two. Top left of your screen should confirm if the settler is now assigned. (PC commands)
While in V you can assign a settler to food, 6 mutfruit(1x6 food) or 12 corn(corn is half of one mutfuit).
In V point at settler then click them then click the food. Same with other settlement icons, the UI will tell you if settler is required when you select a Store etc. As you progress many day's some settler assignments might take up to 10 seconds to register the settler to the resource, don't panic just wait, i might add. That can be annoying.
Store everything in the Workbench(except equipped obviously) armour, weapons, ammo, junk, 7 mutfruit ^, extra Aid.
Your more likely to use wild mutfruit at the cooking station/chemist, It's ingredients.
A lot of users keep 10 of some Aid, radaway and that sort of thing I've come to find out, something i did myself without knowing.
Favourite Fallout Wiki and use it on stuff you ain't sure about.
"Wild Mutfruit" can't be planted. Only standard "Mutfruit" can.
However, Wild Mutfruit is used in crafting so.. keep hold of it.
Dogmeat goes where your *crosshair* is pointing, so he'll always try to run ahead of you;

.......And that's why i don't bring dogmeat along
UPDATE: Never mind, I got it. Apparently on my system you have to hit the [Enter] key to issue commands.
Circuitry comes from different items. Military Circuit boards for one, have them when you scrap them.
You can also use the E key for Enter.
Cross the bridge from Sanctuary and follow the shoreline North, you'll find a robot disposal site. They have some military circuit boards. So does the radar station you'll probably see up there.
You can satisfy the security requirement by building guard stations. One guy can do three guard stations, so can put up three then assign Jun Long to them and you're golden. Just fortify the place later when you have more stuff. All it takes is wood and steel and you should have a ton of that if you cleared the place.
To see what item contains what materials, just go up to the workshop and hit "R" to transfer, then select "Junk." Now while you scroll down the list, anything you highlight with the mouse will show you what it's made of. There's also a way to tag things while you're doing that so they'll glow when you're out scrounging, but it's been so long since I needed to do that I forgot how.
Heh heh heh! I setup three guardposts way in the back, and put him on them. Hardly see him ever again. His wife along with Mama Murphy (all clean and sober) end up working a garden way down by the river out of sight. Then I build six more guardposts for Preston and Sturgis.
The robot becomes my provisioner to Red Rocket, and Dogmeat hangs out in his doghouse in the driveway. Don't really see too much of the gang after that.
