Sound isn't working in Fallout 4
I have no idea why but sound refuses to work. I've reinstalled it already, tried vanilla and attempted any suggestion I could find online. Any ideas as to how I can fix this?

Did you make sure your audio output is set for 16bit 48000hz CD quality? Use that as a starting point and then try increasing it.

Mine is set for 24bit 48000hz Studio quality and it works fine.

Just in case you're not sure how to do this:

1. Right click the little speaker icon in the System Tray and choose SOUNDS

2. Click the PLAYBACK tab

3. Right click on the active device (the one with the green check) and choose PROPERTIES

4. Click the ADVANCED tab

5. Choose the DEFAULT FORMAT from the drop down

Keep in mind this procedure usually works for ANALOG sound devices. If you're trying to configure HDMI, this procedure will probably not work however, a quick Google search produced this

@SuperSledgeNY, not many players offer up as much information as you have here.

Thank you for taking the time to help this OP :)

It seems like mine is set to 16 bit 48000hz CD quality, and I have no other options, the drop down is grayed out.

Might want to check it's not been muted in the windows volume mixer.

Load the game, alt tab to desktop.
You want the speaker icon on your desktop(right corner of the taskbar)

Can't recall if it's a left or right click off the top of my head.

Worth a crack.

(I've accidently muted things before with that damn xbox game bar thing, before I removed it)

That isn't the issue exactly, my Fallout 4 audio is just borked. Sometimes I get only sound in the left side of my headset too, so I don't think it's a volume mixer issue.
Main menu music has never worked though.

Try updating your audio drivers for your mobo's audio device. Also, some headset manufacturers have a user application that works hand in hand with their product. Logitech and Corsair comes to mind, so you might want to look at that too. Good luck.

If this happens with other software, too, and it's a wired headphone then it may be a sign of a broken cable. They can continue to work even when the copper wire inside the cable is broken, because it is being held together by the plastic outside. Gently twisting the cable can reveal if it is a broken cable.
