How to fix Jake Finch?
I recently returned to Finch Farm only to find Jake Finch standing in the same spot he was when he returned to his father after the mission to get the shishkabob sword back, is there a really easy way to fix this?

Did you assign him a job?

Not sure what you mean, but you can “assign” him to work (I gave him the job of collecting junk from a built Scavenging Station). There are bugs listed for him, perhaps it applies to your particular situation: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Jake_Finch

Not true for me. As I said, he's happily scavenging (and I just checked, he'll farm for me too). No mods.

Edit: perhaps there is a 48-hour in game cooldown period for him.

No mods, not even the unofficial patch?

Never seen him do that unless I forgot to return the stupid sword.

Um, part of finishing the quest is Abraham telling you to keep it, so you never actually have to return it, unless you failed to loot it before you left the Iron Works?

Yes guarding

From what I hear there's a bug where he does this if you're not part of the Minutemen before doing the quest but that doesn't make sense considering I'm already general of the Minuteman the only thing is instead of getting the quest from Preston Garby I got it by going to the farm instead. I've also read online that if you send him onto a Provision line it should fix the bug but the thing is I kind of don't want to send Jake away from his homestead even if he does deserve from time to cool his head?

And if you assign him a provision line and right after that make him a guard?
I would save and try,

sometimes the sword falls into the vat of molten steel. Not fetching it out. Nope. never tried.
I don't even want the gimmick sword. And Finch farm looks like a garbage heap, not even a Junkyard. If I want the farm that badly, I just do as I do now and kill 'em all and claim the workshop. Mostly i ignore the slog (they're doing well enoough on their own) and Finch farm. I don't like the idea of "rescue my raider son" who starts shooting at you when you kill his boss.

I tried that it didn't seem to work but maybe I need to leave the cell for a bit before it fixes? After all to fix the Slog Saleswomen Ghoul(I forget how to spell her name) I followed the instructions of building a general sales cabinet and assigning her to it and that seemed to allow me to trade with her but after I went and did that I went back to the Finch's farm only to find Jake In the same place just with Brahman now.

I could never kill any of the settlers even if they annoy me because I always play the heroic characters in most video games because it would probably kill me to actually do evil I can be sarcastic yes but evil no I don't think I can do that in video games.

All settlers hate SS, for the most part. SS shed's blood, SS spends wealth, SS defends, plants, recruits and nurtures. ... but if SS doesn't defend because on the other side of the commonwealth, or if SS loses to the raiders, or shoots someone by accident, of stops them from murdering a synth settler who did them no harm, they will try and murder SS.
That's the way the game is written. it's realistic.

I don't think the settlers hate the solo survivor, I think they instead are just program to react to basic urges, although it does kind of annoy me when they can't defend themselves even when I have tons of defenses against a low level foes when I'm not there but I go there and just stand around and then they can defend themselves.

There is no penalty for killing him. I always wipe out those losers and turn it into an artillery base.
