Help recruiting The Scribe
So, I have the bug where I just flat out cannot recruit him. Not that he dissapeears - that he litterally does not have the dialogue option. Has anyone figured out a way to fix this? I've tried RDF, getting the encounter again, disable/enable/placeatme. Haven't gotten it to work. ANY way to fix it? Maybe a mod? Thanks.

Step 1) Go to the top of The Prydwen
Step 2) Crouch
Step 3) Stealth kill The Scribe
Step 4) Turn it in

No, not that. The Scribe, as in the unique level 4 Armor vendor.

Ah, I see.
Fallout 4 has a problem with special vendors, you'll need:
  • Enough settlers in a single settlement, usually around 12 or so
  • A settlement with room for The Scribe to live in

I had to moveto.player command him out of the test cell to the settlement that I actually wanted him to work at. I think the first time I tried it out it bugged out too.

For no dialogue option, you're doing prid then his refernce, then doing disable, enable, moveto.player?

There's also recycleactor, but he could end up naked that way, not sure if that fixes dialogue.

Also, if you already once tried to recruit him, maybe try to move him to that settlement. He'll never walk there on his own. It's easy to forget where to send him of course. It happened to me on the weapon merchant. But if you get him to the right settlement, you can then move him to another, and then console command him there too.

Of all the level 4 merchants only the tailor and vault rep made it properly to a base for me. Had to console to fix them all. And most of them still give me option to recruit even though they already are settlers and work for me.

Says you require population of 10 in your settlement.

I got him yesterday without any issues.

I have 18 in Sanctuary. It's not that I don't have the requirements, it's that this game has terrible problems with plenty of actors, and most of the Level 4 vendors are riddled with bugs. But thanks.

I'll try these things and get back to you, thanks. And yeah on my previous game Vault got back to my place no hassle.

Well, using the first way seems to have worked, however it seems he won't bring up a chat with me and simply says "Yeah" or "Yes?" if I talk to him while he's working, and puts me into his merchant page. Small thing but it pisses me off, especially not getting to hear anything he'd say otherwise. Thanks though, man.

Try the following. Go to the settlement you want him at, then open the console and type:

prid 0010d56d
setpv bCommandable 1
setpv bAllowMove 1
setpv bAllowCaravan 1
disable
moveto player
enable

You may need to fast travel away and back after this to get the setpv commands to take effect. Go into build mode and see if you can command him, you should be able to.

It should.

prid 0010d56d (tell console NPC id #)
setpv bCommandable 1 (changes flag on NPC to make it commandable like a settler)
setpv bAllowMove 1 (allows settlement transfer to original settlers)
setpv bAllowCaravan 1 (allows the NPC to be a provisoner)
disable
moveto player
enable
