Build A Radio Beacon in Hangman's Alley
How can I build a radio beacon in Hangman's Alley to attract settlers? I went to the workshop and tried to build but my beacon and generator are stuck inside of a wall. Is this a glitch? How can I fix this?

you don't want to build in Hangman's Alley: it is too small, too prone to attack (Super Mutant spawn point around corner, Raiders near by)
just too much trouble
there are >25 other, better settlements to build

Not sure what you mean by "Stuck inside a wall." Did you somehow manage to place them in a wall? You can build more than one of both of those items, so just build another if you can't manage to connect your generator to your beacon.

Ugh, don't listen to this guy, Hangman's Alley is the best settlement location in the game.

Open the console if you're on PC by pressing "~" and then type TCL, you will now be able to fly and move through walls. Grab the stuff that is stuck and place it in the workshop and then re place them.

I've never had to repair anything at HA. In five play throughs, it has been attacked twice for me, and each time, nothing was harmed. The fact that it is near a random encounter point is just gravy for me, so much free loot! The random encounters never come to the alley, and my provisioner is well armed enough to take down most of them as he walks by, netting me tons of free stuff.

First thing is to strip it bare leaving the outer walls, build a building, sit generator and tower on top of it. Beds inside, leaving room for planting food crops etc.

I always build Hangman's Alley as one giant three story building with courtyards in the front and back. Otherwise, it is floored over wall to wall. You can actually squeeze a lot into that little area if you know what you are doing. I've got all my level 4 traders there, Sheffield tending the crops, and most of my companions have permanent bedrooms of their own. Plus five power armor stations and all the other workbenches.

incorrect. If you are planning on playing the future survival mode, you will need Hangman to dump gear. Build upward. All you need is a few floor levels on which to place a horde of sleeping bags. What you need to do is link your settlement with the level 6 charisma perk and get your defenses up to 150 or even 200. i did this and my Hangman has rarely been attacked. It could be a lucky playthrough, but i think it is the defenses.

yeah, the random encounter point seems to be that area by the apartment, which the provisioners pass on their way to other settlements. And i also love this about the site, but for different reasons. There is something immersive about seeing your provisioners taking on a couple mutants.

Agree. Its a good spot - a bit awkward - but good. BTW, when in build mode, not that a large portion of the alley is outside the walls - so move the walls and enclose the rest of the alley - more crop space. Also, get rid of the decripid structures, and build up, two, three stories, get massive guns posted at gate, and space for merchent stalls, etc. Sweet.

I leave my HA with very low defense. Since I built up there is very little on the ground floor aside from crops I don't need are Settlers that are too stupid to take shelter in the higher floors.

Because I have no regular settlers in my Alley, only named settlers like Sheffield and the Level 4 traders, My Hangman's Alley never gets attacked and it doesn't generate any radiant quests. None of the NPCs there have the dialogue to handle those quests, so they simply don't happen.

I originally had a very high defense, but stripped most of it out to free up more room to build, after I realized the game simply couldn't generate defense or other Minuteman quests there. You need at least one settler with the correct dialogue options in order to get those quests.

By typing the same thing again.

I too love Hangmans. Its a challenge, but in a good way.
