Um, you all know about ballistic weave, right?
Once you get far enough along in the railroad quests, you gain the ability to upgrade some regular clothing outfits with ballistic weave. Its Tinker Tom that does it for you and I don't think it takes more than a couple of quests ran for him before you can buy it from him (and gain the ability to do the upgrades yourself on your own armor stations.

I just want to mention this because of the courser uniform. After using ballistic weave on it, and turning it into Armored Courser Uniform, the armor value is 140/125/15 (ballistic, energy, radiation), which is the best armor I've had (or seen) yet in the game other than the power suits themselves! Also, you can put ballistic weave into clothing items like dresses and suits and (with the best weave) get values over 100. You can give these too your companions and it really helps them out.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it in case someone didn't know about it. I just discovered it finally playing with the railroad in my last run through. You will need high levels of armor trait to get the highest weave levels though (#5 is best).

Not to mention the special power armor chest piece you get to make in a certain building. Really cool thing I came across during one of the later RR quests.

I use the Baseball Uniform and News Boy cap, thier isn't that many outfits that balistic weave works with while wearing armor.

I rock it on my baseball uniform and battered fedora, being able to layer on armour pieces on top of it is just too good.

actually it's NOT Tinker Tom's quests that unlock it, it's PAMs ;)

Last play through I used the console command to unlock so I could get actual use out of the lower grades of ballistic weave.

Okay one love your pic, that hits me right in the childhood. Two I would like to do that myself I just hate using console commands. I do hate that the vault suits are the only customizable clothing until you get the ballistic weave, I do get to mod military fatigues so that's good. I wish that it worked with the military cap to, its one of my favorite headgear items but its hard to justify using it at high levels or difficulties.

I would also like the gasmask with goggles head item to be upgradeable it also needs a greater list of items its compatible with. Doesn't make much sense why the gasmask doesn't work with the military helmet or cap, I would love to use a gasmask/cap combo and a gasmask/helmet combo for my settlement guards.

The courser armor is questionable as 'best' for two reasons:

- It's heavy.
- It cannot be worn with additional armor.

Army or military fatigues can still get the +110/+110 of Ballistic Weave 5, are lightweight, and can be worn under whatever torso and limb armor you choose. You'll have much higher protection combining weave'd fatigues with, say, combat or synth armor, than you will with just a woven Courser piece.

Well the way I see it the first couple ranks of ballistic weave should have been available. Leaving the higher ranks locked behind the Railroad content.

Especially if you wanna do like I do an use it on your provisoners and maybe some settlers.

Yep, good old Toadwart, technically a troll peon and not an orc peon, but @#$% it, who cares :P

Don't forget that Minutemen Outfits can have Ballistic Weave and can be worn under a full set of armor.

I hate the railroad so much lol. I had the urge to shoot them all in face every time I had to tak to any of them. Sooo glad thats over now ;)
Pfft, would rather run around in a ballistic weave Agatha's Dress or Feathered Dress then anything else.

Yeah true it does seem like something you should have had in the beginning, you can upgrade the vault suit and other armor in ways that seem more complex then a kevlar weave. I can't wait for the survival update to come out, I want to start playing again with all the new mods that have come out since I took a break from playing. I def want to use the mods that fix the slot problems for things like gasmasks and clothes that should be able to have armor like Lab Coats, which is the only thing I think would really look good with synth armor(Its the white).

Side note the very first time I found/saw synth armor it was a left arm piece off a legendary (fav legend item, gives slow) and I didn't know about the bug so I thought all synth armor was subdermal. Was devastated to find out it wasn't lol.

It is a must when one wants to only wear the Baseball uniform (when fully upgraded, it is perfect for your team's MVP) and outfit all of one's Minute Men with Armored Red Dresses (for that essential combination of style and function).
It is reason enough to let the Railroad live long enough to do all of PAM's quests no matter how hard you plan to betray and kill them later (preferably while wearing armored Railroad Agent clothing).
