fallout 4 "almost working" on my surface pro 4.. Help please
Hey Steamers Lol.

I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment, i replaced my surface pro 3 with the pro 4 i5 256 8GB.
and i remember fallout 4 was indeed working on the pro 3.. not very well i must say. but with the upgrade this should help it run better.

What's hard to work out is the usual Black Screen Fix that people are adding online Usually in the form of editing the MyDocuments/Fallout4 Prefs.ini and changing afew 0's into 1's.

Ive got my setting on the fallout launcher at Low, 1280x720. compatibility mode down to windows 8 which did at least get the game running, so to you few who migh say why I'm using this for gaming it does and will work, it did on the pro 3... Ultimately what I'm getting is the game to run, but the first "countdown" black and white screen, then the game's main menu shows up in a "Zoomed in" state, only showing the top left of the screen so i cant see to select new game load etc etc etc etc..

What should I specifically focus on then if this is the case? I'm sure it's as simple as changing afew 0's to 1's in the .ini, but nothing seems to work, - also should i change those values into the main game "steam" folder's prefs.ini? or just in the my documents?

yes ive tried running as admin too.

Any real help would be appreciated!

thankyou :)

Your problem is the Surface Pro 4, it's not exactly "built" for heavy gaming, considering the specs on it.

i know this isnt a regular gaming tool, but ive had many games run on my pro 3, metal gear solid 5 the phantom pain ran great, fallout 4 was running on the pro 3, but would eventually get slowdown. im sure the pro 4 if i can get the screen to appear correctly then it would probably handle it,

Yes but not very well.
Fallout 4 doesn't have support for certain resolutions, but you can try adjusting said resolution in the configuration files, other than that I have nothing.
The zoomed in state sounds like a video card problem. Try running the game in windowed mode and the lowest resolution. You change this in settings on the startup screen. If that works then you can change the size of your window and the resolution to see what happens. I would not change anything in your INI files unless you are sure about what you are doing. If you do, make sure to make a copy before your changes. I am on a desktop ASUS quad core with 8 gig ram and an ATI video card and I still have to run the game in Windowed mode and med res to get it to work. Even then the game will crash on transitions IE Doing a fast travel...Going from outside to inside...At these points, I always do a save just in case it crashes. The crash is, you are left forever on the info screen and the game never comes back. You have to kill the game using Task Manager and then restart. Also, if you have a video card that has a control center open that up and try giving the game exclusive priority to the graphics, You can also just change the graphics settings.

bTopMostWindow=0
bMaximizeWindow=0
bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=0
iSize H=720
iSize W=1280

Changing these to whatever I needed fixed the zoomed-in view and replacing the 0's with 1's does make it launch at fullscreen. Ohw and change these in the FalloutPrefs.ini and right click on the file to 'freeze' it aftwerwards so the game won't change it
Also try running it on older CM's like Win 7 or so, I never had a problem with it

Before changing any of the ini's be sure to create a copy and in case you didn't update your driver try that as well, a friend experienced something like that too
