Recommended specs for 1440p at 60fps?
I'm fixing to buy/build a new gaming PC. I was wondering if anyone could ballpark what specs would be sufficient enough for 1440p at 45-60fps, if I'm going with Intel and NVIDIA?

980ti, a good cpu (4790 +) and definetly go for a higher speed ddr3 or better yet ddr4 ram.

I get that level of performance with my AMD system. Not sure what the Intel/NVIDIA equivalent would be.

@ Minion pretty sure your amd cpu won't hold 60 fps in all areas with high view distance.

4970 + is good @cpu, regardless of resolution. Without AA that 45-60 fps is doable with a overclocked 980, let's say 1400 core and 7500 mem should be fine.

you don't need a TI for your target.

also ram wise you should go 2100 @ ddr3 or 3k @ ddr4

FX-8350 watercooled and OC'ed to 5GHz? Yeah, it does. I have a slight bottleneck at my GPU, because PCIe 3.0 isn't readily available for AMD motherboards. But I assuredly maintain 45-60FPS at all times.

The only real issue I've had with my all-AMD system in Fallout 4 is an occasional tree-texture glitch caused by the new Crimson drivers. Saving and reloading takes care of that issue easy enough.

I gotta say that from what I've seen and heard that at 1440p resolution you really dont need AA.

And in some cases reviewers of graphics cards will argue that AA at 1080p isnt really worth using when in search of high FPS with decent graphics cards due to edgies already being something that the typical player wont gaze upon during frantic action.

I never fall below 45 fps on my all AMD rig, I'm not sure what all the Intel/ Nvidia fuss is about?

So would an I7, 16gb RAM and GTX 960 2GB enough?

I would say yes, though I've not built an Intel/NVIDIA box for quite a few years.

I'd also recommend getting a good drive. An SSD isn't really necessary, but at least have a 7200rpm SATA drive.

no the 960 is roughly 50% of the 980 ther's no 1440p with a 960, it not in the same league.

Just take GTA 5 for an example, the amd cpu is just way behind, I figured fallout 4 as an cpu intensive game and you should see some heavy drops on amd just because the chip isn't up to paar with an devils canyon / skylake, no matter what other people say or "feel". There's benchmarks out there...

No its not, I'm on a Core i7 2600K, 16GB ram, 4GB GTX 770, the GTX 770 and GTX 960 have identical pertformance, no way you can do 60fps on it at 1440p, I can't even hold 60 at 1080p

I bounce between 30 - 50 in outside areas, only interiors I'm at 60+

Its Heavy performance games like this that makes me NOT want to get a 1440p or 4K monitor, 1080p is still the best balance of performance vs quality in my opinion for most games

The 960 can run the game full ultra @1080p 40fps, but not smoothly. You need at least a 980 for your target which has already been stated.

If you are building a new system now don't go without a 4GB+ GPU. Newer games are always going to be pushing the texture size envelope.

I really need to get up to speed on current generation NVIDIA products. Thank you for the additional information.
