Abernathy 91 to 64 Happiness
I am at a loss as to why Abernathy Farm keeps losing happiness. There was an Instintue attack, they smashed up my Clinic and Armor stores. Nothing else. 2 settlers died cause they were synths. I'm Institute allgned but I didn't have to help the battle, it ended as soon as I fast traveled basically. I was 91 happiness before the attack, dropped to 71 afterwards and it still keeps dropping.

Stats:

People 23 of 25
Food 53
Water 39
Power 30
Defense 211
Beds 31
Happiness 64 and dropping.

Stores - Level 3 Bar, Clinic, General, Armor
Beds - I disabled the 3 set beds, and it seemed to fix my happiness issue for a couple days, last week. Blake Abernathy still won't sleep in any bed I assign him, he just stands near it. The other two Abernathy's sleep in assigned beds. There's two settlers who will just sleep in whatever bed, even though they do have bed assignments.
Radio/tvs- I destroeyd the radio. I don't think there's any other tv or radio around.
Work assignments- There's 3 or 4 settlers that don't work. I just recently built the General store and Clothing store, those were only recent assignments since attack.
Sleephouses- I built two, and the beds are being used mostly, the settlers can get into and out of the buildings without any trouble when I'm around.. I don't see anyone wandering around at night except guards and provisioners.
I have one provisioner going out to Sunshine, and one coming in from Red Rocket.
Settler behaviour- They do their jobs, they don't have any complaints, like 'my back hurts' or anythign like that. They go to restaurant in morning and at night.
I talk to shopkeeprs and Blake and none have complaints.

I'm at a loss as to why happiness keeps sliding. I read something about walking away from the zone, then fast traveling back to refresh it or something, but don't understand it. Will resting or any other trick refresh the zone and stop the happiness slide?

I gave up on trying to get happiness to 100 for my settlements. As soon as they hit 90 or so they start dropping, so I try to keep them in the 80s. I found out that so many minor flukes can drop the happiness levels and I am always at wits end trying to figure out what the problem was and you are right the settlers most of the time don't provide any hints. I did find that things such as houses not having their own electrical power, or maybe an outdoor restroom, crops needing repair, beds too close to walls, beds turned the wrong way, inability to get into a house because entrance is too high, a broken generator, a store needs repairing, an outdoor cooking fire place turned the wrong way and so on will cause hapiness to drop and fast sometimes. In cases for a broken generator or not enough beds a settler may point out these conditions.

Makes you wonder what the devs were thinking here.
