I have rhe shadows distance in 5000, changed in ini file. God rays off. I think I will not enable the god rays if they are still causing low fps.
edit: you are rendering EVERYTHING even if you can see it or not.

these 2 should help if you want some steady frames
Thanks but I don't like shadow boost. I prefer keep shadows distance at 5000. And Insignificant object remover is a good mod but he doesn't affect at performance I think...
As well as make the game more basic looking, obviously, but I'm not entirely convinced that I'd miss any of the things that get removed, such as those hideous stones.
in skyrim there were little bits of grass and rock underwater that the game would render while you were only near the area and not even in the water. a mod prevented those being rendered which did help some people. insignifigant object remover does the same thing, with many other objects in the environment also. and it has a number of plugins that allow to pick and choose what isn't rendered more specifically. it might be helpful, and if you back up your save it will be safe to give the plugins a shot and see if they help. In fact, i think i wil give the lite version a shot later if I see too many dips.
sStartingConsoleCommand=gr off to fallout4.ini
to disable them ,
they aren't so much broken as just too demanding , i get a solid 60fps with them off versus 45-60 when they are on ,, even on low
Comparisons that I found interesting:
ULTRA god rays vs. NO god rays[images.nvidia.com]
LOW god rays vs. ULTRA god rays
I did a lot of testing myself and came to the conclusion that I did not like god rays all that much, even on ultra. To me, it makes everything look hazy/fuzzy. Maybe that's what the devs were going for but I much prefer the "clear" look, without god rays.
For me, God rays are beautiful... But it's a pity that they consume a lot of GPU power.
lolno. You aren't rendering everything even if you can't see it. Do you know how 3D Graphics work? If Fallout 4 was rendering everything, it would run at .5fps on a TitanZ SLI 5930x.
If you want proof the game doesn't render everything. go find a spot that drops your FPS and then turn around or look at the floor, and watch it climb right back up.
For the Godrays, the setting determines how much tesselation is applied, and the only real difference you can see in quality will be on the edges, btween Ultra, which I assum is x64 and Low, which I assume is x8.
Turning it offhowever, seems to disable volumetric lighting altogether which is a significant drop in visual quality IMO.
For the record, the PS4 (And XB1?) Run Low 8x Godrays. and you can really notice kind of the checkered pattern on the edges, but it's hardly distracting.
