Overseer's Guardian makes for a great Semi-Auto Sniper, great Full Automatic rifle, it just depends on what you're more comfortable with.

well i used auto all the time, but i'll try the semi-auto for once, might suit my play style

Semi will save you ammo, but auto is more effective at close range.

.308 semi auto
Not good in both.

If you want a .45 full-auto damage dealing gun, go to bunker hill and buy spray n' pray from Cricket ( she may not always there, but you have a better chance when go there)

Change overseer's guardian into a semi auto sniper rifle maybe better, but it's still a weaker sniping weapon than instigating combat rifle, since OG's special effect is "two shot", the extra bullet only deal raw damage( means it takes no benefits from perks ), so it will deal much less damage than instigating combat rifle if the target's health is full

semi is basicly cookie clicker.

more damage/shot, very good if you're quick on the trigger.

"Two shot" is still superior to "instigating" to everything you can't "one hit" or targets that have been scratched by your companion or something else.
You are right with damage modifiers added to the second shot. BUT...
For damage calculation the two shots are added and then halved, which makes a difference in resistance calculation.

With an optimized build (perks and equip), you can get 10 to 11 vats shots out of a sniper optimized (.308) Guardian.
that leads to:
- no sidearm required
- selecting all visible targets in vats (two times for safety) and see them go down.
- no worries about closing in enemies that are slightly wounded by your companions.

Well two shot is surely much more powerful in the early stage of the game, but not in the late stage( lvl 100 and higher, with all companion perks, and travel alone), when you can easily one shot kill almost all but the strongest( such as supermutant warlord, mythic deathclaw, and synth eradicator ) enemies in one stealth head shot with a .308 instigating combat sniper rifle

And for the main battle, I prefer relentless guns with VATS enhanced armor pieces, which can provide you with infinite APs

Full Automatic Overseer's Gaurdian with a Powerful Automatic Reciever is arguably "The best" weapon in the game. Not objectively superior in any one category to other guns, but great in virtually every encounter making it really the only gun you need.

High Damage with good accuracy in controlled bursts, devestating DPS on full auto. Common Ammo Type, not overly heavy like an Assault Rifle or Combat Shotgun.

.308 Is a strong contender too, but lacks close range shredding capability. For example, if a Deathclaw surprises you at close range through Ambush or absent-mindedness, you'll probably want a full auto to take it down before it can instant-kill you. (If yout of Power Armor at least)

Yeah, there are other, stronger weapons, like any Dual Shot plasma rifle. Some even have insane spike damage like Explosive Shotguns. But I don't think any platform has the versatility of a Dual Shot Combat Rifle (Overseer's Gaurdian)

L100+ NOTHING can stop you.
Made it to 160 with only the guardian.
everything is one shot then... two shot just makes it easier when you are ambushed close range.
like i said, optimized for vats is the key... boring but effective.
five pieces of armor vats enhanced, two ap regeneration, everything ultra light... no problem with anything.

I play with mods that automatically level the enemies a little beyond my level, which is 92. The semi Overseers Guardian is much better because enemies at high levels have very high damage resistance. The way the formula is calculated, a higher weapon damage is much more effective than what it may seem. So the 2 shot version which pushes the weapon damage up to 180+ with perks has much more of the damage go through than a lower damage weapon, That's why at higher levels, full auto guns are almost useless unless they come with special modifiers like wounding that proc with each bullet.

When you're ambushed and have to fight a deathclaw close up, JET is the key. You can fire an enormous number of rounds in the time that it would take VATS to fire one round. VATS is good for moving enemies, and small targets like bugs and insects. Also to fill up your critical meter. I use VATS a lot, but Jet + Psycho is my go to.

it seems that fully auto pisses ammo but good for quick fights

and semi auto seems to do more damage - and you can control your ammo

i've found that low damage and high ammo consumption is a bad combo.

damage is good but it only lasts for a few fights-

looking at you minigun...
