Is eroticism unwelcome in games? I'm inclined to say that it is actually an irrational taboo when I look at how games are rated and whether or not a retailer will stock them and if a country will even allow the game to be sold. The general rule seems to be Nudity = Bad, Violence = Good and this is mostly because everybody cares about what others find erotic because of its association with intimicy. We've all had (or at least you will if you're into girls) that girlfriend who makes a huge deal over watching porn with some even viewing it as a form of cheating and it is irrational and idiotic but also very hormonal and that promotes a bias view towards sexuality.
History is a clear indication that we don't have a healthy view of sex even though it's a apart of the human physiology that the majority of people enjoy. I don't think that we should treat it as taboo but instead embrace it in our media. People are so scared of sex that whenever it does make it's way into video games like Fallout or Skyrim it isn't done with any sort of justice that captures the natural beauty of it and it usually takes a purile yet enjoyable form.
Not every game needs sex or nudity but if a game is intended to be played by adults and features some sort of adult theme (especially violence), then I don't think there is a valid basis to be upset by the depiction.
MGS V:TPP, and discussions on modeling realistic physics for unrealistically proportioned breasts in bizarrely revealing outfits? The odd 1-on-1 fighting games with absurd outfits that you wouldn't actually wear for serious hand-to-hand combat unless you were ambushed?
Well, so long as it's in ways that don't insult intelligence and require massive suspension of disbelief due to poor execution. If COD, Battlefield or a R6 game threw in large-breasted tiny-waisted female soldiers running around in bikinis and with incredibly insipid lines in high-pitched dialogue while the male characters all remained generally buff but realistically proportioned wearing BDUs, vests w/ trauma plates, practical accessories, and Inspirational Speeches in Manly Gruff Voices, there would be reasonable grounds for complaint; they're basically insulting the audience at that point.
Something like Mass Effect's "romance" system, OTOH? Not entirely implausible that the stressors combined with close cooperation and the mere fact of physical desires among a crew stuck on a starship could lead to a romance. Saints Row 4's parody of it? Funny and clearly not meant to be taken remotely seriously; the entire game was riffing on other games and movies to the nth degree, so again not out of place.
This is the Fallout 4 Forums now if you've actually played Bethsada Games you'd notice that there is really a distinct lack of erotism.
BUT, since you mentioned Witcher 3, well now thats a game where you can play as a shovenistic male protag that gets to bang every female on legs. Yup he's not that descriminatory.
And that is outta the box, no mods required you get to collect women like they were Pokamon Cards, thats real mature gameplay eh?
Okay I do not see Geralt as shovenistic at all, as a matter of fact he regularly stands up for equality for both men women, elf and man as well as dwarf and i recall no feature for collecting women like pokemon cards. Sorry geralts a dude still, it shows that he still retains a fair amount of his humanity.
lol
Paranoid.
