Edit: It's just my personal opinion, but the game loses its fun once you start using the console, give it a fair try first!
I had the "don't try the console" in mind the whole time, that's why I had so many attempts though I didn't know I could put it off, I guess playing far cry and having that "exit quest" button made me think there would be one in Fallout, thank you so much!
Btw I forgot the name but it's a quest given by Preston in early game where you clear out the national guard building of feral ghouls and a glowing one, but I dont know if you remember it
Just spam frags on it or something.
Can you not load a previous save and then go only back to that quest when you've levelled up a bit?
Put some perk points into your shooting skills (pistol especially) - it makes a difference.
where did you find it? or where should I look?
There's also a mod out there that allows you to mod legendary effects onto equipment, I'd look into it.
If you're low on firepower, ghouls are definitely a decent target for fragmentation mines -- they hit the legs, and I don't recall seeing any feral ghouls actively avoid mines, so a hit is pretty likely if you're putting them in a narrow corridor like inside the NGTC.
If not... well, yeah, leaving is an option.
I also wouldn't recommend attempting to break into the armory at the moment, either. ;)
