Last Boss (Spoilers)
What's up with this trend of not having a last boss in modern games? Fallout 4 is mostly an action game, but the climax consists of a few rooms of standard enemies and pushing a button. Even a lame boss like Alduin is better than this because I at least feel like I overcame something. -_____-

There is no such thing as a last boss in beth games when you think about it.

Depends on your idea of "final boss"
Two schools of thought: A normal enemy but it has been scripted and performs in a way that follows and ties up the story (Ulysses in FO:NV)

OR

A "big bad guy" with stages and phases, commonly an older idea.

I would define my view as the latter. Being JUST over 20 last month :)

However, I don't see "bosses" anymore, I see NPCs or actors that are harder or have some kind of gimmick.

But thats just my view.

You could argue that the whole battle inside the institute IS the final boss.
I mean, 2 legendary unique synths. Stages. A track you need to run.

Sure, theres no scary dragon at the end or anything, but the whole "big boss" idea died quite a while ago. Mainly because it was short lived and easy to beat. Take Dark souls for instance. Bosses are actually very easy on the 2nd or so try, since you know their moves and phases. With a more race track style, it's a little more unique to your experience and outcome.

A final, or large battle can be a surrogate to the traditional 'final boss', which I find both Fallout 3 and 4 opted for over a typical boss battle. In my case, fighting against the persistent waves of Brotherhood, and a power-armored Maxson making a last-stand was a suitable final battle.

Sometimes the lack of an accomplishing feeling can be a deliberate message too.

I actually never thought of it that way, but you are completely right.

After all the message is that war is pointless

I define 'last boss' in it's broadest sense as the final challenge/obstacle of the game before the story reaches it's climax.

Fallout 4 compeltely fails in this regard. The final mission the easiest part of the game, I just fight a few generic enemies (that mostly die in one hit) with an army of my faction buddies doing most of the work.

Yeah, pretty much. Fighting the Brotherhood is the best way to get a better final battle, since they're actually well-armed, and are also wearing power armor for extra protection.
