How to make a Half decent looking character
Whenever I try to change my characters appearance, it always turns out bad. How can I make it actually not repulsive to look at?

inb4 mods.

Lemme edit this with a real answer. Might take a bit.

First we have to ask, what is your definition of repulsive? A lot of people say any character in Fallout 4 that isn't a mod using some weird anime girl is repulsive.

Let's use some Companions as a base line, do you think any of the companions look good?

Male or female?

Male cant help you...

Female, here is a nice handy dandy save file on the nexus, that has no mods used.

Miss London - Natural Beauty - No Mods[www.nexusmods.com]

Starts the game just after character creation, so you dont miss out on anything.

This makes me wish Bethesda would make a feature so you can save (Or Even overwrite) existing pre-defined faces.

Tell me about. But, thats what the Face Ripper Utility is there for.

There's a few parts of the face that people forget about, that really influence how shadows are cast off, and play on the face itself. The Jowls in particular.

I mean, without knowing what what OP likes, I can't say specifically. For Female Characters, a little bit of makeup goes a long way, especially eyeliner and eyeshadow. You don't want to go overkill, but you also don't want it to look flat.

A lot of people give me grief (Okay maybe not a lot, but I have gotten grief) for using makeup on Female Characters, it's not a problem with the gender, it's a problem with the imperfect lighting of the (all really) game engine(s). Outside of Raytracing, you can't really get the same depth, and makeup compensates for that. For decidedly heterosexual reasons, I'm not nearly as discerning to the male face, lol.
