For me, yeah definitely. HBAO+ Makes the game look much better. I'd liken it from going to PS4 to PC. I know that may sound like Hyperbole, but it really feels like that to me.
It's definitely worth maybe turning shadow quality down to medium, and Godrays to Medium-Low, you should be able to balance the performance differential like that.
Also, for the record, you can tweak SSAO (as well as HBAO+) in the Fallout.ini.
A good compromise if you just feel SSAO isn't dark enough.
FO4 has the high distinction of being the only game in the last 20 years where your Ram's speed is a major factor in performance.
So yeah, the fact it's Gamebryo aside, FO4 is a real oddball.
More than likely, Havent tested it myself, It looks beautiful using the reshade SMAA anyways, Way better than FXAA IMO.
Buy GTX 980 or OFF. Standart AO looks nice.
The question is, does it bring down your FPS to a lower-than-desired amount?
For the most part, if you're playing 1080p with a 970 or higher, the HBAO+ shouldn't bring you below the 60FPS cap. And times you do dip below 60FPS is probably more to do with shadow drawcalls clogging up your ♥♥♥♥.
