Radeon HD 7470 temperature spike problem in Institute
I'm running on a Radeon 7470, and I've lowered the settings a fair bit anyway to improve FPS. Generally my card sits at about 70-75 celcius when running Fallout 4; which is about the same as it clocks on any modern triple A games.

However, whenever I visit the Institute, the temperature suddenly soars to approaching 100 celcius and the fans go crazy trying to keep up; often this results in a hard shutdown of the machine; bizarrely, when this happens there is no impact to the framerate, it just gets hot

Before you ask, yes the rig is completely clean of dust and the device drivers are up to date. And no, it is not overclocked.

Any idea why this is happening, and why it's restricted to just one map, in one game?

Think I read on a recent thread the institute is very heavy on some graphical effects due to lights and occlusion. Might wanna see if toning these two down results in less of a heatwave when there.

I'm using a 7850 without any problems.

Check fan settings? You might try a custom "Aggressive" fan setting, although your card is quite old, and I have no idea what kind of life the fans have left in them. If they break, you'll be in a world of ♥♥♥♥.
