Melee Finishers and Combat Moves.
I've noticed in my most recent playthrough that if I'm up in someone's face with a shotgun or rifle I can sometimes pull off this double stock bash attack that instant kills an enemy. I've also noticed that when I'm unarmed, a finishing move involves me grabbing them around their neck and placing them under my arm and squeezing.
Is there some way to pull off those throwing attacks while carrying guns or must I switch to a melee tool or unarmed to flip someone or trip them?

I suppose those are just randomly chosen finishers. I'm not sure if there're any combat moves like in F:NV, but you can try it by yourself by holding W/S/A/D and attack button.

Honestly I'm wondering why they've implemented this system in the first place. Believe it or not there's actually animations tied to the power bash key that you can ONLY trigger in third person mode. I have NO idea why, but if you've ever seen NPC's trip enemies, or slit throats with a machete, those can be triggered by the player, but only in third person. It's REALLY weird.

Flipping and tripping are melee power attacks that randomly occur when using a power attack against an enemy that you won't kill w/ your power attack.

I don't think you can do them w/ a ranged weapon equipped.

I've had it happen in third person when holding ranged weapons.

Well there ya go. I don't use the ranged weapons that much.

Mostly just to shoot out lights and turrets.
