switching rotational axis in workshop 1.3
So in the new patch they've added the ability to switch the rotational axis of objects you place in workshop mode, but I can't seem to get it to work. I am playing on PC with an xbox controller. In the patch notes it says:

"Added ability to rotate an object you are holding with left/right triggers and pressing down on left thumbstick lets you switch the rotating axis"

Now that's written in a way that's not totally clear, but I've tried all variations of button pressing and trigger pulling I can think of and have been unsuccessful.

Has anyone got this to work with or without a controller?

Well, it is actually pretty clear. When you hold "select" you can pick up objects and hold them in front of you. Now, you can rotate those held objects. It does not alter workshop mode at all. You can not change the rotational axis.

Then it isn't clear. It says that if you push down on the left thumbstick you can switch the rotating axis i.e. the x-axis instead of the y-axis.

I'm pretty sure I was rotating objects on the y before this patch
Well, I was wrong about the axis, hitting shift does change the rotational axis of held objects. But not workshop objects, as doing something like putting a bed at a 45 degree angle would be weird.

Now I understand. Held objects being weapons and other items you might place for decorative purposes, that never occurred to me. There have been times I've wanted to lay walls flat or at an angle other than 90 degrees. A bed at a 45 degree angle would be weird, but some creative object placement is sometimes called for to get a build looking the way you want. I've used tables and shelves in place of stairs when the build system/object snapping won't let me place things "just so"
Thanks

so you can roll them over? What button dose this, because all it dose is just rotat as in spin.... and it was doing that before the beta patch 1.3...

It's not workshop items, it's held objects while you're in workshop mode. So if you pick up a bucket or something and want to turn it upside down.

That's what I assumed when I read the patch notes, but that feature has yet to be implemented.

Ok, just tried my Thrustmaster controller, the one licens by microsoft for the PC and X-box 360. The objects just spin when useing the right and left lower front buttons. Just like the mouse. To be honest, just to try it out drove me nuts, don't know how you can play useing that. I use it for games that you drive. Anyway, It did nothing for a verticle rotate. I am sure if it did, it would be set also for use on the keyboards, can't have one without the other on the PC version. Maybe what you looked up is either only available for the PS4 or something they are planning to come out on the next update..
Ah, ti's only for items you can grab whilst NOT in workshop mode... Working as intended, sadly very poorly explained what it was working for ;)
