Audio Delay Issue?
Hello all,

Haven't played FO4 in years! Started it up after a fresh install, verifying drivers, etc and i have an audio delay. This does not exist with other games and didn't happen years ago when I originally played. Is this a known issue or any people in the community might have an idea why its doing this?

Thanks :)

Limit your monitor to 60 or 120 if it's NATIVE (only) to that monitor, if it's a higher frequency like 144 you'll need to look up which to cap it at (72? something?)

The game requires 60 fps for its code to properly run. When it goes too fast over that, things like speech, lockpicking, running around, etc all go out of whack.

Wow, am I glad I asked this forum. Thank you very much! My monitor is brand new as my last one began failing. I lowered it to 100 fps. I'm not sure my control panel allows me to go lower, I just have 100, 144, 165 as options.

Thank you for the support! It was definitely bizarre. Dialogue options were being skipped possibly even lol

Yeah this is one of the more common problems with newer equipment. The game was released before a LOT of that was 'standard' on PCs, so it neither detects nor does it know what to do with such a framerate.

Can you see if there's an option to display ALL modes, even if they're not 'possible'? You will definitely want to try and run as close to native resolution and framerate as possible, just because computers are wiggy that way. Do you have a video card suite to allow you to change it? Or just the resolution options using your OS?

There is a mod that can help you but if you haven't run through the game vanilla and you still want to get achievements, a mod will nullify that. (which - there is a mod FOR that, lol)

Don't change the refresh rate on your monitor, change in in your Nvidia control panel/AMD Adrenaline. (it's easy to do. Nvidia is literally a drop down menu, and Adrenaline you set "Chill" or "FTC" to 60. It sounds more difficult than it really is. Even with no prior knowledge a google search will have this done in <5 minutes)

(if you have it installed. some of us use only the drivers...)

Nvidia control panel will come with the drivers, since it IS the driver.. Geforce Experience can take a run and jump.
Adrenaline comes with AMD's drivers too AFAIK, i don't think there's an option to not have this, given it controls everything...

I ended up leaving it at 100 fps. In the control panel there are two portions, "Ulta HD, HD, SD" and then below "PC". I almost always select from the pc portion. I think i've had better luck accessing the actual fps I wanted when I selected it that way.

Well hopefully it'll work correctly! Don't hesitate to come back if there's other issues you have. Though since the game has been out as long as it has, there's a 100% chance someone else has had it first :D Some things work better than others, each PC is different, so there's always a chance something else will go sideways. This game is ... well, a buggy mess sometimes, so not to worry we'll have you with brahmin on the roof and ghouls clipping through walls in no time.

I tend not to listen to it much though I will put Singing Settler (a mod) in every settlement so there's a singer with all the gender-specific songs assigned to them or the karaoke machine that lets anyone take a turn :D

Alternatively, just install the High FPS Physics Fix from nexus and enjoy your 144 FPS without bugs.

I ended up lowering it to 60. It's kind of hilarious how that bug works. The ghouls ended up being like teleporting jedi. As soon as aggro'd you they just skip across the ground and one shot me. It was funny / fun for a couple seconds but then it became unplayable lol

That... seems like dedication. I don't think I need to do that yet. I think I will just install fallout 3's music through a mod. I remember it had some really good music

Do you fine people know why the game might be laggy still even while limited to 60 fps? The game is like 90% good right now, but the BOS ships are like kamikaze ships who just fly into everything... and I'm pretty sure the computers you can hack into are also bugged
Zekiran Dec 7, 2023 @ 11:09pm
Depending on where you are in the city this is absolutely normal. Particularly if you're building settlements and deleting things, or if there are lots of things going on near the Charles River.

Whenever the vertibirds go over that area or in my case whenever I walk too close to it, the game literally stalls to a .5 frame per second if I'm lucky.

But fps drops are very, VERY common for this game no matter the build on your computer. It's just unoptimized and there are some really glaring errors in certain parts of the cityscape. Behind fanueil hall, for instance, there's a portal into the abyss (the geometry isn't covered by texture, or repeats under it, etc it's horrific lol).
