Hair crashing my game
When going through the hair options for my character, some of the hair won't load and will crash the entire PC by freezing the screen and it is only fixable by turning off the PC by holding the power button. There are some occasions where it will crash to desktop but it mostly crashes the entire pc. Please help and thank you.

Yikes. Is it standard game hair or from a mod? Is your PC struggling with the graphics in general?

don't mean to insult modders, but there are a lot of mods out there that would bork you game. Too bad there are no honest reviews.

It's a mod hair and some of the hair in the pack are there, and then the others are just nothing, it makes my character bald or buzzed when viewing them. When I'm trying to get to the Azar ponytails, it crashes either on a certain hair option or just a random one. I have Misc. Hair Styles and some other ones but I don't know why its crashing. I heard something about the Misc. Hair Styles but I don't know what it is about with the mod. Thanks for the quick responses you guys :)

So I picked my hair style, somehow I was able to get to it without crashing but as soon as I was picking out stuff in the extras section, it crashed to desktop

Your mods are not installed correctly, or don't meet the criteria... ALL mods - not just the hair-specific mods - may be broken at random, so just be sure of what else is on your game's load list.

Without knowing your FULL load list and *the actual order it's loading in* (not just an alphabetized list like some people set out) it's kind of hard to tell you where to really look. Make sure that your character appearance mods are all properly installed and updated, or that all their requirements are met first, though.

I made sure it was installed correctly unless I'm missing something but I can't find anything though

Do you have any companion mods, or mods that may alter basic items like would be needed to load the set for character creation? Bodyslide and other such things I'm sure would affect it, but I mean also things that change the textures of walls, high rez pack, etc?
LyricSeal Nov 24, 2023 @ 5:14pm
I have a couple of them but now that you mention bodyslide, I was tweaking with a body preset and I applied it to all outfits and stuff I had and I feel like it caused this. I was able to load up a game just now, I don't know how but it loaded. Ima see what happens now when I go through the hair options

Yep, it crashed as soon as I got close to the azar ponytails, luckily, it didn't crash the entire PC

Welp.

Whoops.

Should I double check if I have those mods installed correctly?
Zekiran Nov 24, 2023 @ 6:30pm
All of them, every time, honestly. Mainly I'd check for similar crashes, like google 'hair crash' and the name of the mod, might find something other than the mod's page, reddit often has threads about such things.

Just because a mod is correctly installed doesn't mean it won't cause problems or completely bork your game.
There are several reasons that have nothing to do with correct installation that can cause serious issues.

Edit - Far too many people assume that mods will always "just work" and don't realize that it is fairly commonplace for mod problems having to be fixed by the mods needing to be scrubbed from a system before the game gets a complete clean reinstall.
ie, The problem mod can still cause problems even if you uninstall it, if it isn't completely and properly uninstalled.
