Is there a modern mod to skip the intro cutscene and mirror dialog?
I found one of these once, but the comments mentioned it was full of dirty edits. Does any mod do it, but properly?

Edit: Apparently I need to be clearer. I am not talking about the Sanctuary Hills/Vault 111 walking, Start Me Up Redux already fixes that. I want to skip the "War Never Changes" and "quit hogging the mirror" dialog before this.

Not that I know of, besides how would that work?? You still need to make your character, don't you?

There are plenty of "fast start" mods that, right after you assign your SPECIAL points, bypasses the whole pre-nuke scene and have you exiting the vault...

I've had a nerdcrush on SKK50 for years, someone who puts in a lot of time not just making mods, but understanding the game, working within what Bethesda intended, goes to great lengths to make everything as "proper" as possible, doesn't just sledgehammer it in and end up causing issues later, so I would send you to SKK's Fast Start..

with this, you start new character, press T to skip movies, get to the mirror, load whatever looksmenu preset you want or manually make your character, assign points and name, and that's it, you're out, with all the stuff you would have found if you and played the intro. takes 20-30 seconds with a preset character.

you can try to immediately 'coc SanctuaryExt' but no idea what will happen, what your name will be or your stats, assuming you don't crash out. I can't imagine it works or it would be listed all over the place.

Don't use a mod that will mess things up when a save file does the trick. Play the intro yourself without any mods and save right before exiting vault 111, then enable your mods, you're done

Been doing it for years and it works like a charm

What? I'm talking about the "War never changes" cutscene and "You're going to knock em dead tonight at the veterans hall" dialog before character creation.

That's not only a terrible practice incompatible with almost everything, it's not what I asked for.

Hmm. I already have the first. The second one seems like it does what I want, but also adds a bunch of uneeded stuff that will break Start me Up Redux.

Hmm, so you want to press T to skip the B&W movie, and go right to the point of character creation? No, I have never seen such a thing. Maybe it's hard-coded, maybe we'd need the source code to pull that off, cause you'd think someone would have done it by now, if it were possible.

But if I ever find one, I'll rez this.

edit; that is the SKK thing I was talking about, and no, you still get the steamy mirror fade-in and war never changes/knock em dead dialogues...

? its ONE time you create your character, when you save before leaving the vault you can start from there.
Play until this point without mods and you will have no problems to activate your mods at this point (well there are a few mods that want a start from the very beginning, but really only a few you probably dont want)

If you dislike to do it yourself, here is a savegame

That's a huge compatibility mess among many other issues.

???
You start your game vanilla without mods. And then you add your mods AFTER the savegame you made before leaving the vault.

I know there are a few mods that need the game to be started from scratch, but even after browsing most of Nexus i cant even name one.

What is the issue you speak about, do you have a example ?

Major mods and updated mods frequently need a new game. It also doesn't help at all with testing which is why I want a mod to skip the intro movie.

You pressed T ?
deuxhero Jan 4, 2024 @ 4:38pm
Movie still has to load first. You're not actually being helpful here. I know what I'm looking for. I am not looking for crude and incompatible workarounds.

i think alt start mod?
Death Approaches Jan 4, 2024 @ 6:22pm
deux, BG is correct, the pre-war crap isn't the game it's more a standalone tutorial; haven't you noticed it's when you leave the vault elevator, that's when the mods start with the endless message scroll and start asking you for configuration info?

You certainly can save inside the pre-war house or the vault, and use that as your starting point, once you "go out" then no, saving after that will have all the mod data in the save file.

This is why I rec'd the SKK mod, it auto-saves right after you confirm your character but before it makes you exit, it's because SKK50 is a mod creator as well as a mod user, and did this for himself for his endless, tireless testing - we get the benefit of his trial and error.

I’m honestly confused as to why it’s so deathly important that you find a mod that does something which you can do by default (skip the intro movie) and skips a snippet of dialogue that’s maybe 10 - 20 seconds in length.

I’m sincerely interested what you’re reasoning is for needing to entirely remove these things.
deuxhero Jan 4, 2024 @ 9:44pm
It isn't "deathly important", but it is what I'm looking for. It would speed up testing of various mods significantly. What actually slows me down is people who can read perfectly well what I'm looking for and still distract me with completely useless repetition of information I already know.
