You will want the dlc for modding purposes, as well as the fun additional content.
But yeah it's the same set of products but bundled differently at different times during the 8 years of Fallout 4's life... GOTY is the best easiest way to go!
Also remember - this game has trouble with rendering weapon debris on RTX 2, 3, 4xxx and beyond and nvidia 16xx model video cards. If you have one of those (and you probably do) you need to turn weapon debris off in the settings before trying to start a new game. It will cause an almost immediate crash, so removing it is wise anyway. You won't miss the feature, my card CAN run it and I don't bother.
If that is so, i suggest you to buy goty, because you might play this longer than you initially plan.
The season pass is the same as goty at this point.
When Fo4 was new, I bought it, and the season pass. The seasons = the dlc. As they were finished and released, the season pass guaranteed me access to them.
It's mainly for folks who already have the base game.
No. Season pass does not mean for a limited time. It means you get access to everything in a "season", which for most games means permanent access to all the DLC that ever came out. Some games do limit access to all the DLC from a specific time period, but its still permanent access to the DLCs covered.
Subscriptions are time limited. Season passes are not.
