Abernathy farm is broken.
Playing console, vanilla.

I cant get any if the settlers assigned to any jobs anymore. I cant even get settlers to move to different settlements.

Is it because I have too many people?
With max charisma, chrisman clothing and chems I was able to get 33 settlers to Abernathy. At first the settlement worked fine, I was able to assign them all to farming vegetable starch crops, but didnt plant enough to assign all settlers.

Now that I have enough crops down, they wont assign.. they wont even mormve to other settlements.

How do i fix this?

The main issue mentioned above is the beds in Abarnathy, I notice once you get access to the workbench the Abarnathy's stand around outside at night and do not move if you leave the original beds intact. Use console commands, disable or (markfordelete - you have to leave the area after for this to work) and build new beds for them and make sure they are undercover not in that back area which is not covered correctly.
If you're using console commands, you can directly check whether beds are covered by targeting them and using "getav 334" on them, which is used to indicate whether they're covered. If you've only just placed or moved a bed, you may need to exit and reenter build mode for it to update its 334 ("Bed") value.

As for the Abernathy Farm beds, the positions those are in all count as covered, since the game basically checks for a solid object within a couple of stories height above the bed, and counts a hit as it being covered even if it's just a narrow beam. It can get a miss if the ceiling is high enough to be out of range, but within range almost anything will do.

There're even those bunk beds from one of the Creation Club furniture packs that seem to always count as covered, with the only seeming explanation being that they're checking upwards from the lower part of the bed and it's hitting itself. :steammocking:

Never knew that, learn something new everyday, but all I know is I look up and see sky so to me they are not covered, least that my theory and it seems to work lol

IDK, all I did was add additional bedding to Abernathy (bedrolls) and everybody has been happy ever since. Only the people assigned to farming go inside to sleep (they mill about indoors for a while shortly after sunset commiserating before sleep as I would). All others are on guard duty including all my available companions. Some companions can't be assigned to anything, but that's fine (they still provide excellent protection of the settlement). I'm happy to report Clarabell, Maisie and the rest of the family are still alive and doing well! :)

But there were some preexisting Tato plants I could never get anyone to farm consistently (appeared assigned, but later they were not). I couldn't scrap them either, had to "store" them in the Workbench to remove them then plant my own.

Who knows...

If you've got enough beds for enough people, it won't matter too much even if a couple of people aren't correctly assigned to beds since the average happiness will be good enough and if there are enough beds in total, they may not even complain even if some people aren't assigning to them properly.

Abernathy Farm is a bit wonky overall, but now I'm wondering if the arena contestant pad thing I found that can "fix" a few settlers not having Protected status also works on animals, or if it only affects regular settlers. I'll have to check it out at some point.

I don't use mods and have the same amount of beds as people who count (of course robot companions don't need bedding, but they also lower the total happiness since they are always stagnant at 50). I consider it a minor achievement that none of the settlers/animals that are capable of dying has expired yet, considering I'm at level 40 and A New Threat is still open. :)

Edit: LOL, but somehow Connie Abernathy still manages to get kidnapped occasionally!
