caltrop economy
I had 9k steel accumulated over time and wanted to use them, and made some caltrops with 8k steel, got some exp etc.

then took them to diamond city market and checked their worth;

= 32.000 caps

Waht da haiill, Everything i looted to sell so far, pre war monies gold bars purified waters.. all was in vain, unnecessary, timawaste.. plus, poisonous caltrops sell for double and they are made with same amount of steel.

dude..

yes - caltrops are magic and should be worshipped ;-)

and not only are they good for XP and caps - but they also help extract the useful components from those heavy metal items :-)

lol - i used to - not anymore :-)

also for a very long time i played a no crafting game - i made a mod which gave me all the standard attachments - and all i was allowed to do was swap attachments from weapons i found

but recently i started playing with crafting again - and have been searching out chemistry stations to transform all this junk into sweet sweet (and much lighter) components

i also recently got the Mobile Mechanic mod - and plan to have a playthrough with that, so i can scrap on the go

but the chemistry bit needs Scrapper and Chemist - and i play a low intelligence build for Idiot Savant (with a mod that removes the annoying laugh lol)

so i shall need to shuffle my stats a bit

but still got some New Vegas to play - and am going backwards - even booted up Fallout 1 the other day

but i shall always return to Fallout 4 and its pretty, junk filled wasteland - with endless stuff to shoot - and treasure in every container (so long as you pick Scrounger)

but yeah - in my almost 3000 hours of Fallout 4 i am not ashamed to admit that i have dropped and scrapped every item in Sanctuary more than once lol ;-)

but i have found some weird instances of owned workshops doing some weird things when you make caltrops - i.e. not giving you back the components

so i tend to use unowned crafting stations these days - which don't seem to bug out - useful for storage and crafting - just means that some items stay junk till they can be used

anyway - yeah - when i discovered caltrops - well - that was a beautiful moment i shall cherish forever ;-)

I stopped collecting junk ages ago..

I loot ammo & meds and buy junk.. just get scrounger as you mentioned.

Collecting junk is killing your attention to the game, story and atmosphere.. you keep looking at the floor and miss many details with the places..

In real life, it's relatively normal to increase the value of raw materials by using your own labour to make them into a product. We're short the forces of supply and demand that should normally limit how many people actually want those caltrops, but the weird part is that it's pretty much only caltrops, not that crafted caltrops are more valuable than the scrap metal used to make them.

For everything else, we turn our scavenging labour into goods and sell them for an overall profit, even though we can't sell them for as much as we have to pay to buy them.
