Power Armor disappears before my eyes on exit
I was working on tricking out the T-60 armor, so I'd really rather not lose it. Right now, if I step out of it, it disappears immediately. No, it's not in my inventory. No, no one could have stolen it. It quite literally disappears right before my eyes. Please, please tell me there's some way to fix this so it won't happen! (I'd really like to be able to take off my armor from time to time...)

Annnnnd, where exactly are you standing? What mods are you running?

Are you talking about the individual pieces? Are they on a frame? Are you talking about the entire frame-and-armor?
DouglasGrave Nov 4, 2023 @ 6:29am
If it's the entire frame and the armour pieces on it disappearing, it could be that something (possibly a mod) is messing up the stage of exiting power armour where it brings back the original power armour furniture.

Unoccupied power armour counts as interactive furniture (in game mechanic terms), and when you enter the furniture piece is hidden away right where it is, while you're transformed to have the abilities and appearance of power armour. When you exit, the original furniture is swapped back, which includes moving it to your current location.

If you have trouble working out how to fix the issue, you could always consider stashing your power armour pieces before exiting the power armour frame and finding yourself a new frame to use. At least then you'd only be losing the frame.

Can we get a screenshot? You can upload it to your profile.
Always worth taking a screenshot of weird things happening in this game

Yup, frame and armor. The whole shebang. Kit and caboodle included.

It'd have to be more of a video to show it. Since the armor disappears, a screenshot would just show a normal scene.

I tried stepping out of it in two different settlements and then in the basement space I have from the basement living mod. It happened in all 3. In the first, it was the drive-in and I was inside the main building there. (I have some workbenches set up there.) The second try was in Sanctuary, right in front of my power armor station. Third, like I said, was in a basement area (the storage warehouse one to be more specific).

I've been having a random crash issue that seems to be linked to Build High, but I don't think that's related. Also, Loot put the nuka world settlements mod higher up, but I changed it after reading the advice to place it after Scrap Everything for it to work right.

@DouglasGrave - Thanks for the suggestion to take the pieces off. I haven't tried it yet, but that seems like it should work as long as I don't have the same thing happen with another frame. I'd run out of frames mighty quick. XD

I should mention that I've stepped into and out of this same armor successfully any number of times up until now. However, there were a couple of times when the armor seemed to randomly disappear but was treated as if it was still there. (I couldn't see it, but I could still interact with it to re-enter it.) Unfortunately, now it disappears entirely rather than just becoming invisible. The most recent change I made was that I colored it Vault-Tec blue. Maybe the game is Vault-Tec shaming me. XD

Just tested it, and at least so far if I put the armor pieces on a different frame it isn't disappearing. Not sure if that will last, but at least I can get a little farther in my game. Maybe I should do a questline that gets me another set of decent armor.

One odd thing, though. I had a few pieces of T-45 armor on the frame I switched to. The first time I tried the swap, I moved the T-60 pieces over before taking the other pieces off thinking it would just swap them for me, but the T-45 pieces disappeared. Doesn't seem like the same problem as the whole thing disappearing, but interesting side note.

try buying a power armor frame from a vendor and use it (do not use found ones, and see if it works)
Zekiran Nov 4, 2023 @ 4:48pm
Was that frame stolen? I certainly hope that it works okay from now, but that is certainly weird.

You might be able to confirm what's happening with the frame if you target it before entering and get its reference ID. With the ID to target it, you can re-enable the frame or move it to your current position if neither has happened. That can also allow you to check whether "missing" armour pieces have been left on the frame, though having T-45 pieces spontaneously disappear just from swapping is weird.

It was the T-60 frame and armor from Fort Hagen, so not exactly stolen, just.... acquired. The game didn't count it as stolen which is probably more to the point for purposes of figuring out the bug.

@DouglasGrave That's a good idea. I'll try targeting it if it happens again. I'll probably go back to an earlier save just to check it at some point. I'll update when I do.
