Liam Binet - Wondering if I made the right decision
When Liam's actions came to my attention, I figured getting him banned from the institute was the correct decision to make on behalf of The Institute
I've been having this overwhelming sense of self conflict about this however, for the past 5 months.
To clarify the personal repercussions are only a minor inconvenience, I only really care about what is best for The Institute's future

I would like to hear your thoughts. Here are mine for both sides of the decision.

on one hand, he did directly violate the saftey of the institute. On the other hand he and his father have made plenty of breakthroughs in the robotics division and have proven to be valuable assets. Although Justin Ayo is a bit of a jerk, I can see why he might actually be underappreciated in certain aspects of his duties. I really wish I could talk to Dr. Zimmer about this, he would have better insight.

Anyone with any futher information about it, would be appreciated.

I locked him inside a storage closet

To further clearify, I am talking about a specific quest.

He came off as kind of snotty to me. I would have given him a break if he just calmed down a little. I figured overall what he was doing was just adding chaos to the Commonwealth. If synths need to be liberated somehow, that's a different issue with how the Institute is run. I'd rather fix the cause and not the symptom you know?

Lolwhat? You found him in the game world? Or that's an actual solution to the quest?

He gets sent to the outside of the institute's cell, so i just moved him towards me, teleported him inside of a storage closet and locked it.

There's a few outcomes for the quest:
A) Kill him
B) Let him get banished
C) Blame his father instead
D) Blame neither him nor his father, but instead, accuse Justin Ayo

Well, Dr. Li said Binet's personality mesh for the synth child was nothing short of marvelous.
I just cant figure out if shes talking about alan or liam.
Also I am concerned about Alan's lack of ambition since I banned his son.
I'm pretty sure I made the right decision though, I just wish I had an alternative.

Like putting him under house arrest with a courser to follow him around.

I know the outcomes of the quest, I looked at the wiki before coming here, and I often look into the terminals for any information I can learn about the institute.
I just want to see if anyone has any information I might have overlooked, especially if it was disclosed in a conversation.
Ill admit part of my regret was not getting liam's glasses, I kind of wish there was still a way to get them, maybe finding him in the wasteland or something.

Hahaha, that's suitable punishment to me too.

I think the institute for its own benefit needs to be willing to at least consider some alternative ideas. When his father offered a particular controversial view he was threatened with exile. Doesn't really seem like a healthy attitude. Still Liam went too far in what he was doing, some sort of reprimand was in order. I'd say you did the right thing overall but I'd take the situation as a learning experience.

I was working undercover for the railroad so I sent him off to die, lol.

That's what I was afraid of.
Thank you for your detailed input, I definitely agree that discouraging nonconforming ideas is only hurting the institute. As long as emotional bias dosen't get in the way.
I'd love to push for some of Dr.Ormand's projects to go underway for example.

So i know this is 2 years old and i dont want to necro, but i was just kinda torn about this decision as well.

It isnt good that Ayo is so ambitious, but i think having to deal with an ambitious director is better then letting a traitor say who A: Helps synths escape, and B: Is fully eager and willing to work with the railroad, even forming another plan to help construction synths escape and betray the institute even more. Its a shame but the actions must be punished.
Wish the punishment was less severe but you must show strength, considerig all those questioning and doubting you.

I banish Ayo, simply to curb his ambitions. Helping synths join the Railroad is unimportant when the Railroad no longer exists on account of my personal intervention.

Four Years passed, and this is still a Concern. I'm at the point of making this decisions, and was pretty much seeking the same as the OP.

I had to admit this made me feel good about Seeking Justice; regardless of Ayo's Attitude (I just want to slap him sometimes). But Right is Right, and Liam was Wrong!!!

But then this was posted, and now I'm back to wondering... What to do!!!! LOL

If you are siding with the Institute, then you do need to expose Lliam. This is pretty cut-n-dry to me. His punishment is too severe, but you have no control over that. More role play choices would be better. Like make him a loyal spy for you, the new director to see what the other minions are really up to. Destroying an innocent and loyal man just because he is not polite is a bad move. A director should not want just axx kissers around.

I agree with you on several levels; but ultimately, Liam just sealed his own fate with one statement: "Maybe one day I'll be the head of Robotics, and then I can really help the synths...".

In my mind, I figured he had learned his lesson; but not even close.

And on a separate note; I definitely agree with you that my personal feelings should not have me attacking an innocent person; even if he is a Jerk!!!

I gotta give this game serious props; it does make you think!!!

The other thing you can do is ... nothing. Never progress that quest. Keep it your secret. Role play that you will keep an eye on him. Maybe in your role play you will lead the Institute to see synths as sentient beings and steer them to a new path. All off-camera and in the future, of course.

There was a quest in FO3, that if you did the right thing, something bad would happen. Otherwise you have to kill people that don't deserve it. On replays, I just skipped that one. Let them stalemate.
