Ideal Tesla Rifle barrel?
So I just picked up the Tesla Rifle today, after playing the DLC for what felt like two hours at the most (if that), and I'm curious to know what you guys use as a barrel for the Tesla Rifle. I haven't messed around with it much, but it seems like the best way to go would be fully automatic. By itself, it isn't all that great, but in a group it's simply fantastic, so much that I keep it on my character and have it hotkeyed. Charged just felt too slow for my taste, but maybe I'm just not using it right. It seems like automatic is better at keeping consistent damage.

Thoughts?

Compared to shotguns and gauss rifles it doesn't seem to stack up very well and I run around with a gatling laser so I never have it hotkeyed, But the auto barrel does seem to be the best. The other barrels are just too slow, especially compared to their charge time. Too bad that distance barrel just looks so cool. :steamsad:

gatling laser without the science 3/4 mods pales in comparison to an improved sniper barrel plasma rifle, in my experience... it still fires fast, contrary to what the barrel implies, and the recoil is nonexistant, allowing you to line up quick headshots on almost any enemy

the only downside is that the plasma projectile is just that, a projectile, so if the enemy is moving, you need to lead a bit, which in itself is not that bad a compromise

edit: misread the title, i haven't used tesla rifle i'm sorry (:

edit edit: i used it once when i picked it up, the damage was alright but the fire rate wasn't ideal when getting attacked by a pack of mobs

Agreed. I really wanted to make use of the other barrels (particularly the extended one, it does look really neat), but for a weapon designed against groups, I feel like the automatic barrel suits it more.

There is no ideal barrel. Throw it in the garbage, it sucks. I had to step back and let ada kill the glowing deathclaw that was hardly feeling this gun, when it actually hit. Swapped right back out for my exploding shot gun.

It might be good at minimum dlc level, but I'm in the 60's, and yea, this gun is so pointless.

I gotta agree with you. I played the dlc on a lv30 and lv60 and while the Tesla Rifle ripped through the robots as a lv30, the lv60 character struggled to take down one with several shots. Felt like I was just tickling everything with my lv60

*shrug* It's a fusion cell weapon -- cells are very common, and most fusion cell weapons will have a hard time beating a Tesla w/ charging barrel for damage per cell (a bit over 200 damage w/ full Rifleman, but no Lone Wanderer/Bloody Mess bonuses). Laser muskets can hit harder, but at the cost of using more cells.

Yeah the gun would feel like a beast on the lower levels but it seems 50+ the gun is weak and useless even with the best mods for the weapon equiped

I have been using the tesla with the shotgun barrel, it works great at close range in multiple target situations, fantastic for ghouls. But you basically have to walk around holding the fire button so it builds a full charge, or use vats because it always fire full charge in vats.

I stuck it in my 'Unique stuff" locker after discovering how weak it was against most opponents.

I actually had to put it aside because it really isn't all that great either, after messing around with it for a few hours. I found myself having to pull out all of my other weapons because it just couldn't keep up.

You might have better luck using it against groups, as it's performs terribly against one opponent.

Charging Tesla rifle is insanely good on Survival
because on Survival everything dies so fast even from a basic 10mm pistol
and Tesla rifle can hit around corners and multipile enemies at once and uses cheap ammo

Its second best good and efficient weapon for survival you can get
(Number 1 is still Deliverer pistol tho)

Gun is pretty. Other than that, it's weak.
Best mode, cells shotgun, if u max its powers with science.

Its very weak compared to other options
the arc traps dissapear too quickly and the aoe dmg is pathetic even on survival it barely tickles the enemies. And it has no cc value what so ever they just run past the traps getting shocked for very little dmg.

Charged or Scatter are best options for Tesla Rifle
