Oberland Station question
So Preston Garvey has sent me to Oberland Station. One person there told me that raiders were the problem. I think she said where they were, but I didn't really catch that location. Is there a definite, set location for the source of the raiders there in all games, or is that location randomized? Is there any way to recreate what she told me?

An added complication is that I got the radio call about the Cambridge Police Station, and I went there. I helped shoot the ghouls when I arrived, and Danse asked me to go with him and I agreed. I don't know how extensive this little adventure is going to be. Could I go with Danse and complete whatever he's got going on and then try to deal with the Oberland Station raider problem after it? Or is Danse's adventure going to take a long time?

Dance will wait forever; the raiders won't, but you have enough time to do other things if you like. Yes, the destination for raider attacks is randomized from a pool of nearby target locations. Something like Hubris Comics is pretty common for where you are.

Some missions have set targets, but usually its a random pick from a range of locations. The mission will be listed in your Pipboy along with your other quests, and tell you where to go, or give you a quest marker to lead you there if it's selected as your current one.

Thanks. So I have no idea where those dratted raiders might be. I guess I need to load an older save and really pay closer attention to what the settler tells me. :steamfacepalm:

Or just look it up in your Pipboy, which should tell/show you exactly where to go.

Danse's mission will only involve a single visit for now, but whether or not it would take too long depends on where the raider mission is located, since reaching and resolving raider issues can vary depending on which site has been picked and what else you've done.

They typically just say "a nearby location" for these generic quests; as others have suggested, the destination ought to be in the Pip-boy.

Yes, the dialogue often doesn't directly identify it because they'd have to record a different line for each location.

Okay, thanks for the answers to the question. I'll roll things back just a little bit and try the Pip-Boy. It's a complicated game. I think I'm getting into it.

press R while you are seeing your quest, it will switch to the map and show you where to go

Chances are, if he sent you to Oberland then you either need to go to Walden Pond or the Corvega factory. There are multiple possible locations, but those are the two most likely ones. As the others have said, your pipboy will mark the location on the map when you have the quest selected as active.

First Oberland quest is usually Back Street Apparel.

Thanks to everyone who replied. It was the Corvega Assembly Plant that I had to go to. And was I ever not ready for it. I hadn't realized that the place was huge until I looked at the local map once I was inside. I used up my resources very rapidly, got killed a few times and was barely able to slink out of the place, leaving a lot of raiders still in possession of the plant.

I'm gearing up to go back there, maybe in the power armor this time.

Question: when I go back will the umber of raiders defending the place be lower by the amount that I've killed on the first try or will they all re-spawn since I did not complete the mission?

Sounds like that would have been easier. Maybe it was too bad for me that I was not offered that quest. Ah, but the post-apocalyptic wasteland is a dicey place.

The dead raiders will remain dead for a while, but eventually respawn.

This game IS RANDOM where the AI ( or whatever is ) sends you . In my version of the game
( which is only a few weeks old ) , I get sent to Sunshine Tidings To clean out the ghouls there .

Funny, I remember that I always used to bring a power armor to the site, to clear out the Corvega.. it was like the only way to do it.. like 7-8 years ago..

Later on I once did a no-hit challenge at Corvega and cleared the whole place with no sorts of damage taken.

I feel you brother, you ran away but you will eventually come back ;)

I don't recall offhand if I've tested whether the radiant quests actually want everything dead, or if they just want the location to get the "Cleared" tag, which would mean you only need to kill the designated boss of the location.

Not that it's usually that simple anyway, since it's rare for a boss target to be exposed, rather than buried deep behind layer upon layer of minions. I mean, maybe Outpost Zimonja, or the Gunner camp east of Saugus Ironworks.
