♥♥♥♥ White Picket Fences.
Hello. At the time of typing this i'm currently trying to make sanctuary look less like total garbage. And if your reading this, you know it's not going well. These ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ white picket fences are taking up about an hour of my time right now, and thats just for the backyard of one house.

I think my hatred for white picket fences started around 2018. It was then that i realized that whoever implemented them into the game, along with the snaping feature, clearly looked upon me with devilish intent. I can't quite put my finger on it though. Why? Why would a stranger at Bethesda Softworks target me? Why would they do this?

It was during that time in 2018, that i realized the subtle yet hate filled ambition that the white fence designer had toward me and possibly others. You see, you can snap together these fences all day long if you truly want, but they will never work in the way you hoped they will.

Now, in the modren day, as i type this post, i'm working on the backyard fences for the player's pre war home in Sanctuary. The white picket fences did exactly as i wanted...at first. But then i realized, there is a slight incline in the dirt on the other side of the yard. My heart filled with dread as i realized my fate.

These sin filled white picket fences would not simply do as i asked, they would clip into the dirt as i tried desperately to get them to connect, making them appear as shameful, half tall fences. I started from the top of that incline for second go, only to realize the fences don't bend with with the curvature of the incline. This resulted in not geting one nice line of white picket fences.

I type this message now, as a flag of surrender. But i will return. You see, i'm going on a new playthrough. I intend to download the scrap everything mod. I am not going to quest. I'm not going to level. My only goal is to travel the commonwealth, exterminating white picket fences wherever i may find them. getting a single one line tattoo for every kill i make.

It is then, and only then, that i can rest.

Place Everywhere. Scrap Everything. Two mods that work just fine when you don't abuse them.

Place Everywhere is what you will want to learn to use if you want to NOT just scrap it all, as it has alternate rotations and snap features that are really super good.

I scrap the damn things, it takes about 30 min to get rid of them all, their not worth the effort unless its a totally flat surface.

You can stagger picket fences on modest slopes by using the individual fence posts, and temporarily removing the intervening fence sections to adjust their height.

I don't usually bother, though, since until you get the magazine for them, you're stuck rearranging the existing pieces at Sanctuary instead of all nice neat ones. And by the time I get the magazine, I can build more substantial fences.

These two mods alone will elevate your settlement building experience immensely. No more snapping and uneven ground getting in your way. Simple, efficient, glorious.

You know you can rotate said object on all x,y, and z axis right? So you can angle a fence to match a slope on a hill. Make them look perfect.

How do you rotate objects across the other two axes?
Highlight the object you wish to rotate, and use the ctrl key to cycle until you have the desired axis. The default keys are all on the mod page's description. The objects will get that blur effect for a bit when you rotate, but it'll go away if you grab the object and cancel, or reload a save. Just an FYI, if anyone's wondering.

you tried making a fence line on a plain surface then press and hold e and group select them

you can move them all together this way and some parts of the group can clipthru into bushes

~ scrapall.
Then go to the Weston water plant, kill a platoon of Supermuttantts (watch out for the suicider), and then go down the elevator. Don't die from the turrents, and get the Better Stones and Garbage magazine that puts white picket fences in build list. Working with that broken white fence stuff is a "why bother?"
Besides, Marcy Long is still gonna beach. Why bother at all?

Important to note Scrap everything breaks both Navmesh and Precombines

You are better off using a mod that removes everything from the start

Though they are mostly snapping objects so they don't clip as freely as non-snapping ones where you can rug glitch it.

It's one of those things that sometimes makes scrap walls tempting to use specifically because they don't snap.
console command
~scrapall
vortex
download place everywhere mod

those 2 things fix like 90% settlement issues.

tbf though picket fences do help keep npcs out since they're hard to navigate lol
they got the snap mods that have fences that work better and look better than the default picket fences

thank god for modders

bethesda games are like 30% bethesda 70% modding
which is why 76 is such a dumpster fire no matter how bethesda tries to "fix" it. 100% of 30% is still 30%. RN they're at like 70% since starfield came out recently.

also recent lawsuit they had to submit their files and in it was AN ELDER SCROLL REMAKE AND FALLOUT 3 REMASTERED!!!!

Only if you use Scrap Everything wrong.

You need sloped section of fence, you can't rotate the pieces. That's not how fences work, planks need to be vertical. The problem is that there are only so many sloped sections of fence in this game. I think only 2 fixed angles of slope exist and you will never be able to make it look good if these doesn't exactly match the ground, which they almost never do.

You can also use place everywhere mod and after you have snapped the level sections together you can move them up and down slightly to adjust for terrain slope. It won't look good if there is a steep slope. Irl you would need to adjust each plank individually to get a smooth curve. If there is a steep slope you probably wouldn't use a picket fence, it' looks weird.

Best solution for you is to find a mod that adds more terrain objects and you can place them on the lot to make it more flat. Then build your picket fence on top of this level lot.

Remember that you can use the mark for delete (probably without spaces) command in the console to exterminate any picket fence you find in the commonwealth
