I need me some farmer raiders.

The North Dakota Department of Labor claimed a small Bismarck farmer was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to investigate.

Department of Labor employee: I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them.

Farmer: Well, there's my farm hand that’s been with me for 3 years. I pay him $200 a week plus free room and board.

Then there's the mentally challenged worker. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night so he can cope with life. He also sleeps with my wife occasionally.

Department of Labor employee: That's the guy I want to talk to...the mentally challenged one.

Farmer: That would be me.

Nah. Texas, New Orleans or Alaska.

Farmer raiders? Kind of defeats the purpose of being a raider. People join the raiders because they don't want to farm or scavenge for themselves and have no wish to trade when they can simply take what they want and need from those not equipped to defend themselves.

I agree with Castyles, Texas, New Orleans and Alaska, each state would make far more interesting settings.

Alaska would be pretty neat. I do like winter/snowy apocalypse settings. Wasteland 3 nailed that aesthetic pretty good.

I meant from an aesthetic point of view, not a functional one. Raider grungy aesthetic mixed with stereotypical Midwest farmer. Overalls, straw hats, plaid shirts, etc - mixed with metal plates and leather patches (bonus points if made of tractor parts and dairy cow skin).

Midwest in Fallout loreverse has less damage overall and a higher population than the much more heavily bombarded coastal regions.
Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Arizona, Wyoming, actually has a lot of nice things to see other than the industrial corn and soy hellscapes. There's also the problem where they'd simply have to address the "Caesar's Legion" problem; the "New Vegas isn't canon/main series" argument would probably get mogged to death.

Detroit to Toledo corridor would be too easy to make post-apocalyptic (seriously just take live footage and swap out the billboards) but considering we're in Year 12 of Skyrim, I'm not expecting anything ambitious or serious in Year 8 of Fallout 4.

Florida.

I want a much better form of NukaWorld DLC set there.

Miami, Tampa, swamps with big ass mutated gators, leeches, snakes...

Orlando with a BIG ass Nuka World: Florida, Sasparilla Sunset world, Vault-Tec 0' fun land... Blamco world.

and, the alternate worlds version of NASA with Nuclear rockets etc.

Make it that there's a plague happening that's attacking everyone. Connected to that everyone has been exposed to the FEV in small doses due to water and food contamination due to the leaking containment they have had in FO1, 2,3,4 76

Maybe one of these "purity" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ has managed to action a plan... but its slowly killing rather than fast due to the level of exposure. Plague Supermutants - melting and spreading the plague. crazed cults thinking that if they kill the ancestors of vault dwellers, they will be spared.

etc etc etc

If you want 'because they have nuke silos' Far Cry 5 / New Dawn is >>> that way :)

Ah I see. I did not gather it was more in sense of aesthetics than the literal term. The image you conjured in my mind with that description is quite unappealing to me personally, I do prefer the overall Mad Max vibe for a raider's ensemble. Of course, it's likely I didn't envision the same image you have in your mind. Perhaps you could satisfy your need for ah "farmerly" raiders through modding.

Why not Rhode Island? The Big Blue Bug would really be a headache in the Fallout universe.

Because Paragon City is already filled to the brim with superheroes in RI ;) They'd have chased off all the raiders and most of the mutants ARE super!
Personally I'd go somewhere outside the USA to really shake things up a bit. Japan or South Korea would be interesting. Cuba would be interesting. Mexico ?

If remaining within the USA - New Orleans, Florida, or Puerto Rico.

Outside the US would be interesting, but I think it's just not going to happen with the series' focus on 50s Americana. I can't imagine Bethesda at least being willing to break from that.

Alaska might be interesting, completely different environment. If picked in the summer not everything is covered in snow so you could have some snowy and non snowy parts. Should make for some beautiful environments. People would be more nomadic maybe or living in the middle of nowhere, things'd be more spread out. Map needs to be larger too to accomodate that so there's enough content without making the world feel crowded or empty.
As long as it has a large urban area with vertical exploration of skyscrapers I would be happy. I'm sick of cliffs and rural crap after Fo76
