We need more info.

What item?
Have you build more than the build limit?
Any mods? Complete list.
Have you used/ abused console commands.
Can you make a screenshot of the specific item?

I only know one item that can crash your game during building in Sanctuary. That's the new drawer from from the Vault dlc. But the chance to crash the game is less than 2%.

I had to reinstall sim settlements 2 deleting alot of stuff and the crash occurs with any item placed or scraped and no im no where near the build limit. I also use the scrape everything mod. Vivid textures and extended weapons and armor mod pack.

Scrap everything is a dangerous mod. If you are crashing, then you have probably corrupted something in the settlement and will have to start over. You will likely not be able to fix it. I would not use "Scrap Everything" without saving EVERY time, and even then you might not catch the kind of corruption you are experiencing before it is too late.

I know it is nice to be able to "clean up" the environment, but honestly, it isn't worth the hassle of having to start over if something goes wrong. There are glitches that I've experienced, like with the Castle floor ending up 3 feet below ground level, that really make a mess of the game.

Scrap Everything is entirely safe. what you DO with it is not. If you remove the wrong items such as behavior triggers or area doors, that's unsafe.

SS 2 on the other hand is a ridiculously buggy mess of a mod.

it's probably the mod that broke my settlement although it is weird to have the bug trigger recently but at least I can use every other settlement no prob.

It's known to mess with them badly, so yeah make sure it's installed correctly and you don't have any other settlement mods that may in any way conflict. Including model and textures, items, and such... SS2 really seems like when it works it works amazingly well, but if it doesn't it is a terror to behold.

MODS are the source of all CTDs and corruption.
