Any way to fix the long load times?
I am very late to the party, just bought Fallout 4 the other day. It's good, but it irritates me that load times between areas are up to 30 seconds long.

Any way to remedy this? Seems weird for a pretty old game.

At times, riding an elevator never ends.
I once stepped away from the desk and came back 15 minutes later and the elevator ride was still going on. The game is just stuck loading.
Long loading times between areas isn't that different.

This is what I do when I get those long delays:

I press the Windows key, wait a few seconds, then left click on the game icon in the task bar.
Once I'm back in, the transition finishes (elevator ride ends / new scene loads as expected).
Very rarely, that trick doesn't work the first time.

I'm certain it wasn't always like this, but was unintentionally introduced by some past update.

Install the game on an SSD if you haven't already, Hard drives mainly affect the loading times of programs and games.

This plus the mod for faster load times (only works with SSD) is what I did and it made a huge different , much faster loading. The mod is called Load Accelerator

The game is known to have a memory leak. Something i find helps is to delete old saves.

Thanks. I already have an SSD. I'm worried that the mod will disable my achivement progress, though.

There are mods to prevent that disabling.

increase your fps to 60, settings lower 40fps slow down loading. also check power management and driver for energy settings and lowered background activity. this can hurt loading performance severely!

Load Accelerator on it's own won't disable achievements.

all mods disable achievement because steam hate mods

I can confirm you still get achievements with this mod

I've been using it since I started the game, and I'm getting achievements normally

Google FO4 Load Accelerator it is the first thing that pops up, I would have given up the game if it weren't for it, and check out my steam page I'm getting achievements normally

I noticed that before adding the HD DLC my load times where almost instant, then when I added that DLC it caused load times to take extremely long, and the game to randomly just shut down. I even bought and RTX 3050 to see if that would help and it didn't improve.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I think I've solved this now. The trick was to disable Steam overlay. :steamhappy:

The HD pack is garbage, and will only ever slow your game down. There are dozens of far nicer packs of texture improvements on the nexus that won't do this as much and would look way way better.

Your RTX needs to have weapon debris turned off by the way, a known issue with that type of card and this game, so until Bethesda releases its update sometime this year, gotta live with certain concessions about quality you might expect given that you have a nicer card.

Sometimes it does very strange things with the main load screen when I power the game up. If your connection to Steam is slow, this might be your best bet, though now you won't have easy access to screenshots or other things.
