Where can I put a mod request?
I wanted a Simple mod where upon arriving in Sanctuary I can meet a Glowing Yao Guai that would be a companion that could follow me around. I wanted his name to be Bastion, I found it fitting.

Bastion, third definition:
One that upholds or defends something, as against neglect or unpopularity: synonym: bulwark. :steamhappy:

I think I remember seeing a mod on Nexus that had a Yao Guai as a companion. If you can find it, just ask the author if he can make a Glowing version. There also should be a mod to rename anything where you can then name the Yao Guai.

I've never really understood how to add nexus mods to the game. Ive always done mods through steam. What do I have to do?

You don't use mods for this game "from steam", they don't exist as there's no workshop. If you mean 'from Bethesda' in the game's menu, that's a different set of mods entirely.

What you will need to do in order to start adding mods from the Nexus is first:

Go to Silverlock.org and find the FALLOUT 4 SCRIPT EDITOR or F4SE. If you have a current game and the DLC (don't bother modding without the full set of dlc available) this will help you run the mods you want. You should read the instructions found in the file, you get, including where to put it.

You will need a MOD ORGANIZER tool - there are several available. I use the oldest one, Nexus ModManager community edition, but it's not the favorite of most modders any more. Vortex is the mod organizer that Nexus itself uses (that replaced NMM), and Mod Organizer 2 is also available. Some of them work better on some systems, than others, so if you get confused by one, try another until you're comfortable but remember to completely uninstall these different launchers because they might interfere with one another if they're together.

Once you have F4SE and your mod organizer downloaded and working, make an account over on the Nexus - it's not vital to do, but it does allow you to keep track of the mods you download, and that can be VERY important when one updates, or if you've installed one that is broken.

Basically once you have the mod organizer tool open, you can click on a mod's download page and use the obviously named button. (The alternative is "manual download" and you do not want to mess with that, trust me.)

It will generally put the mod's downloaded contents where they're supposed to be. And to use them in the game, they need to be 'activated' in the mod organizer.

In order to RUN THE GAME with mods you MUST use either F4SE to launch or your mod organizer might also have a 'launch modded game' type play button. Launching the game from Steam will NOT start F4se and thus your mods will be broken or not present properly.

heh, I download all mods I use through the manual download function exclusively, then add whichever mods into my mod manager afterwards as I see fit. let's just say I trust things more that way.

While I technically know how to do this, too, I know MY limits :D And someone who's just starting out any kind of nexus should really rely on the existing tools because explaining what they do is just kinda confusing even if you use them all the time.
I hear ya. that's how I started out though and old habits die hard, plus I like to crack those mods open with the editor to see what makes 'em tick once in a while. whatever works.

I want a mod where you establish missions, not "settlements", and your faction is a Church, not some para-military organization.
Been trying different mods. Found one where you kill the Christians. Too much even for me.

I have been playing this game forever, and am a computer dunce. (sorry, am old) I have always used Bethesda mods. Because I fear I will screw the pooch with Nexus mods. *sigh* But you, Zekiran, have given me the courage to try something new. Thanks for the explanation and easy to follow instructions.
maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks, after all.

It really is fun but it does definitely come at a price. You always run the risk of the game just upchucking and failing to do what it ought. But when it does work... it is gorgeous and fun.

>_> I've spent the last 9 hours or so of my run right now, creating a massive township in Ivanpah Race Track in the Project: Mojave (abandoned, sadly) mod trying to rebuild New Vegas in the FO4 engine/game. Huge build area. I happen to have a huge amount of stuff to build there. :D Virtually none of it vanilla.

Just my 2 cents, modding is a minefield but fantastic when it works properly, I know I had a hard time nutting it all out, if your new to it just use the nexus and vortex it will guide you thru the process.

"Tales of the Commonwealth". Looked interesting. Start out with a house of ill repute being attacked. I thought they were raiders. You help out, and you're given a quest to go kill a faction called "The Saints"
It's like the Depravity mod, you go out and help the kidnappers who try to enslave you and you then go on side quests to help one kill her parents, one to kill a Preston Garvey look alike, one to become the Drug Duchess of the Commonwealth. And O&R has you trying to kill "Don Lincoln" who is obviously based on Donald Trump. I mean, yeah, okay. I like playing pirate too... but Christians as a bad guy faction? Too weird.
I'd like a good mod where you kill all the Children of Atom. They're the greatest danger to the commonwealth. If you go to Sentinel Site Prescott, you find one of them from The Crater that is trying to set of a Nuke.

I know that mod and that quest line. Kind of stretching things to assume the Saints are Christians, isn't it? They're just another Commonwealth gang as far as I can tell. I mean, they ambush you a few times - is that Christian doctrine?
